APSU to host OVC Cross-Country Championships

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) will host the 2020 Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championships, Monday afternoon, in Clarksville.

APSU is hosting the event for the first time since 2006. Due to COVID-19 Coronavirus protocols, there will be no fans permitted at the Championship this year.

Originally scheduled for November, the event was delayed to the spring. OVC cross country teams ran an abbreviated season in January/February.

APSU Women's Track and FieldClarksville, TN – For the first time since November 2019, Austin Peay State University men and women’s cross-country teams will return to action Sunday at the Belmont Opener, hosted at Vaughn’s Gap Cross Country Course at Percy Warner Park in Nashville Tennessee.

Ron Morton continues tradition of transformational giving at Austin Peay State University

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – For years, Ron Morton has been one of the most benevolent donors in the sphere of Austin Peay State University (APSU).

A 1970 graduate of Austin Peay State University and cross-country student-athlete, Morton’s generosity began in earnest in 2012 when he endowed the Ronald L. Morton Scholarship Fund benefiting business majors in Austin Peay State University’s Olympic sports.

To date, more than 20 Morton Scholarship endowments have been awarded by Ron and his wife Andrea to aid APSU student-athletes, directly impacting sports with fewer available athletic scholarships.

Austin Peay State University athletics gets record seven Team Academic honors

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Austin Peay State University (APSU) student-athletes have broken yet another record in the academic realm.

This one is the team academic honors, which saw a department-record seven Austin Peay State University squads—men’s basketball, beach volleyball, men’s cross country, football, men’s golf, men’s tennis and women’s tennis—earn nearly half the 17 Team Academic Achievement awards offered by the Ohio Valley Conference and tied with Belmont for most in the league.

APSU Athletes continue success in classroom during Coronavirus pandemic

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) student-athletes continued their recent string of success in the classroom, the department announcing its 297 athletes combined to post a 3.292 grade-point average during the Spring 2020 semester.

It is the sixth consecutive semester the APSU athletics department has posted a 3.0 GPA or better and the eighth time in department history. In addition, each of the 15 varsity teams recorded a 3.0 GPA for the second consecutive semester.

“I must commend all of our student-athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom,” said APSU Director of Athletics Gerald Harrison.

Austin Peay State University Athletics has All 15 Govs Teams post 3.0 GPAs

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – For the first time in Austin Peay State University (APSU) athletics department history, all 15 of its varsity programs recorded a 3.00 team grade-point average, pushing the department to a record 3.195 grade-point average for the Fall 2019 semester.

It is the fifth consecutive semester Austin Peay State University’s student-athletes have combined to post at least a 3.00 GPA and the sixth time in program history. It is the third time they have pushed past a 3.10 GPA.

Austin Peay State University Men’s Cross Country has strong runs at OVC Championships

 

APSU Men's Cross CountryEdwardsville, IL – Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s cross country team posted strong runs in the final meet of the 2019 season Saturday morning at the Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championships.

Thomas Porter led the way for the Governors in the eight-kilometer race and finished 56th with a time of 27:26.7. Nash Young secured another top-two finish for the team after he placed 63rd at 27:46.1.
