The issue led with Youth Art Month, celebrating young creativity and the local programs that nurture it — a warm spotlight on the students and teachers keeping the arts alive in area schools.
“Bouncing Around the Idea of Balls in the Classroom” explored an innovative trend of the time: replacing chairs with exercise balls to keep students engaged and moving. “New Providence Pool Gets a Facelift” spotlighted improvements to a beloved community recreation spot, good news for families looking ahead to summer, while “Beauty Inside & Out” added a lifestyle feature and the health pages helped parents care for their child's baby teeth.
The recurring departments round out a March number that celebrates the arts, education and community recreation — Youth Art Month, an inventive rethinking of the classroom, and a refreshed community pool, each about nurturing young people and the spaces where they grow as spring arrives.
Alongside Youth Art Month — framed as a chance to support local artists and make art a family activity, with the National Gallery of Art's website ready for a too-cold-to-go-outside afternoon — the issue flagged Manna Café Ministries' first annual “Manna March Madness: 31 Days to Fight Hunger,” a full month of food drives, fundraisers and information campaigns to stock the pantry and raise awareness of the mission.
