The cover feature, “Stewardship and Sisterhood,” celebrated the bonds and service of a local women's organization — a warm look at the fellowship and community work that bring women together for a common good.
“Miss Tennessee Latina and Miss Teen Tennessee Latina Pageants” spotlighted the competitions celebrating Latina culture, poise and community involvement, reflecting the growing diversity of the Clarksville area, while “A Night of Explosive Expressions and Fashion Obsessions” captured a stylish local event. “Meet Clarksville's Sevier Station Society, N.S.C.A.R.” introduced readers to the local chapter of the National Society Children of the American Revolution. The health pages warned that “The News Isn't Sweet” on a nutrition matter, and a chicken sandwich with avocado spread rounded out the recipes.
The recurring departments round out a March number that celebrates community, culture and heritage — a city proud of both its founding heritage and its evolving identity, finding room for tradition and change in the same issue.
“Stewardship and Sisterhood” grounded its case for youth service in the research: young people who volunteer an hour or more a week are half as likely to abuse substances, three times more likely to volunteer as adults, and tend to keep higher grades and adjust more easily socially. Eighty-one percent of Americans who volunteer when young keep giving as adults — volunteerism, the feature argued, becoming a way of life that shapes self-image and work ethic and breeds good will.
