Artsville Fest returned for its third year as artists took over downtown from the Commons to Town Square. Stephanie Bellanger noted the chalk walk and the fashion and art show predate the festival itself, which Maria Haycraft wanted to bring together under one banner. The week opened with a fashion show at The Emerald and ran through an Art Walk and an Art Gala at Sanctuary on Main before a full festival Saturday of bounce houses, three stages, a beer garden and 3-D chalk artists.
“Lift Your Spirits” asked what actually makes the whiskey in that Chris Stapleton and George Jones classic “smooth as Tennessee whiskey.” Old Glory Distilling's Devin Puckett explained the Lincoln Process — filtering the spirit through thick maple-sugar charcoal before it ages in charred American oak. Old Glory is the brainchild of Clarksville native Matt Cunningham, who envisioned it while working nearby as a firefighter and opened in 2016. Despite cloudy skies, thousands came to Governor's Square Mall for the 27th Annual Best of Clarksville, hosted by the Clarksville Kiwanis Club — an evening at which Clarksville Living Magazine was named 2023's Best Local Publication.
The recurring departments round out a December number that closes a banner year with downtown art, Tennessee whiskey and a hometown honor — a fitting cap to the magazine's Best Local Publication run.
