Lady Govs finish fourth in UAB golf event

Austin Peay State University GovernorsGulf Shores, AL – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team, battled rain and subsequent storm delays, to post the second best score during the final round of the 2010 UAB Fall Beach Blast, played at the Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club.

Led by senior Chelsea Harris’ 74, the Lady Govs fired a final-round 312 for a two-day 620, to finish in fourth place in the event. In fact, the Lady Govs, who were in fifth place three strokes behind Belmont after Monday’s round, flew past the Bruins, who ended up in fifth place at 630.

Lady Govs golf in fifth after first day of UAB Fall Beach Blast

 

APSU Women’s Golf

Austin Peay State University GovernorsGulf Shores, AL – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team is in fifth place after the first round of the 2010 UAB Fall Beach Blast, being played at the Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club.

The Lady Govs, bolstered by four sub-80 scores, shot an opening round 308. Memphis led the way during the first day with a four-over-par 292, nine strokes ahead of Marshall and Louisiana-Monroe. Belmont is in fourth at 305, three strokes ahead of the Lady Govs.

Senior Ashley Wathen enjoyed her best fall rounds, firing a 75 to lead the Lady Govs—the 75 (t12th) also tied for her career low. That was one shot better than fellow senior Chelsea Harris (t15th).

Lady Govs golf to compete in final Fall event at Gulf Shores

 

APSU Women’s Golf

Austin Peay State University GovernorsGulf Shores, AL – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team will wrap up the Fall season, Monday and Tuesday, when it participates in the UAB Fall Beach Blast, to be played at the Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club in Gulf Shores, AL.

In addition to the Lady Govs and host UAB, Louisiana-Monroe, Tennessee Tech, Belmont, Memphis, Marshall and West Florida will compete in the 36-hole event on the 5,890-yard layout.

Lady Govs tie for low round, finish fourth in F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team tied for the low round of the day, Tuesday, and it allowed the Lady Govs to jump up to fourth place at the annual F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, played at the Clarksville Country Club.

The Lady Govs, who entered the final day in seventh place, shot a final-round 305 to go with Monday’s 318 to finish at 623. Defending Ohio Valley Conference champ Murray State captured the tournament with a 604 (298-306), with Western Kentucky in second (306-205) and OVC member Jacksonville State in third (311-206). The Lady Govs outdistanced three other OVC schools (Eastern Kentucky 642/8th; Eastern Illinois 653/9th and Tennessee Tech 658/10th).

Lady Govs golf set to host F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate

 

APSU Women’s Golf

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team is set to host the 12th Annual F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, played at the Clarksville Country Club, Monday and Tuesday. The 36-hole tournament consists of 18 holes, Monday, with the final round being played Tuesday on the par-72, 5,960-yard layout.

“The key to Clarksville Country Club is putting well,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “The team who wins this event will be the team who hits the most fairways and is successful on the greens.  The course is in good shape, the rough is thick and the greens are quick, making hitting fairways very important.”

Harris captures medalist honors at SIUE golf event

Austin Peay State University GovernorsEdwardsville, IL – Austin Peay State University senior golfer Chelsea Harris fired a final-round 72 to run away with medalist honors, Tuesday, at the SIUE Intercollegiate presented by DoubleTree, played at Sunset Hills Country Club.

Harris finished at 149 to ease past Western Illinois’ Emily Brink (153). It was Harris’ third career tourney championship, including last season’s Ohio Valley Conference tourney title. She has had 10 career top five finishes, including all three tournaments this season.

Lady Govs in second place after first round of the SIUE tournament

Austin Peay State University GovernorsEdwardsville,  IL – Chelsea Harris, Austin Peay State University senior standout golfer, is tied for first place after the first day of the SIUE Intercollegiate presented by DoubleTree, played Monday at Sunset Hills Country Club.

Harris fired an opening-round 77 to share first with Claire Gursh, of Western Illinois, which leads the tournament after firing an opening-round 315.

The Lady Govs, meanwhile, sit in second place, but are seven strokes back at 322 while Eastern Illinois (325), Chicago State (339), host SIU Edwardsville (348), Evansville (348), Lipscomb (365), IPFW (371) and Christian Brothers (371) follow on the 5,936-yard, par-72 course. The final round of the 36-hole tourney will be played Tuesday.

Lady Govs golf heads to Illinois for third fall tourney

Austin Peay State University GovernorsEdwardsville, IL – Seeking consistent play for a pair of rounds, Austin Peay State University women’s golf team will head to Edwardsville, IL, Monday and Tuesday, to play in the DoubleTree Intercollegiate at Sunset Hills Country Club.

The two-day, 36-hole tournament will be played on a 5,363-yard layout that is considered one of the more challenging courses on the east side of St. Louis. In addition to the Lady Govs and host SIU-Edwardsville, IPFW, Western Illinois, Chicago State, Eastern Illinois, Christian Brothers and Evansville will be participating.

Harris fires final-round 72 to lead Lady Govs resurgence

Austin Peay State University GovernorsBatavia, OH — Chelsea Harris fired an even-par 72 to lead Austin Peay State University to a tourney-low 307 on the final day of the University of Cincinnati Fall Invitational, played at the Elks Run Golf Club.

Still the Lady Govs low tourney round only could elevate them just one spot from 12th to 11th  in the 16-team tournament as APSU finished the tourney at 957. The 307 represented a 17-stroke improvement on the 6,136-yard layout over Monday’s second round.
