UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – On Sunday, January 17th, 2021, #23/24 Tennessee women’s basketball (8-2, 2-1 SEC) faces team number two in a challenging three-game stretch, traveling to Tuscaloosa to play RV/NR Alabama (11-1/4-1 SEC). The Lady Vols and Crimson Tide will meet for the 58th time in the series at 2:00pm CT (3:00pm ET) at Coleman Coliseum.

UT saw a six-game victory string snapped in Knoxville on Thursday night, as Georgia overcame a 17-point deficit and held off a furious Big Orange comeback attempt to escape with a 67-66 victory. It marked Georgia’s first win at Thompson-Boling Arena since 1996.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Tennessee (4-1) closes out the fall portion of the 2020-21 schedule with a Sunday home matinee vs. UNCG (1-6).

The Lady Vols and Spartans will meet at 11:02pm CT in Thompson-Boling Arena.

Sunday’s game will mark the first time these programs have met since 1976. 

Tennessee enters Sunday’s tilt with a boost of confidence, as Kellie Harper‘s squad went to Bloomington and took down the Big Ten favorites, the No. 15/15 Indiana Hoosiers, on their own court on Thursday afternoon, 66-58.

Tennessee Women’s Basketball topples #15 Indiana, 66-58

 

UT Lady VolsBloomington, IN – Senior wing Rennia Davis turned in her 31st career double-double to fuel an upset over No. 15 Indiana in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Thursday, 66-58.
 
Davis scored 19 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds to lead Tennessee (4-1) in both categories. Junior Rae Burrell was close behind with 18 points, and sophomore Jordan Horston also had a good showing, tallying 13 points, six rebounds and six assists.
 
Indiana (2-2), the preseason favorite to win the Big Ten, was led by Ali Patberg with 16 points and Jaelynn Penn, who recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball is on the road Thursday to take on Indiana

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Tennessee (3-1) and No. 15 Indiana (2-1) will face off Thursday afternoon in Bloomington, with the schools playing for only the second time ever.

The Lady Vols and Hoosiers will meet at 3:01pm CT in IU’s Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

Consistent with IU Athletics’ ongoing efforts to protect the health and safety of students, coaches, staff, spectators and the local community, the game will be played without fans in attendance. IU Athletics’ decision is in response to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic and is consistent with what has transpired on all Big Ten campuses during the 2020 football season.

Austin Peay State University Track and Field has good performance at Memphis Tiger Invitational

Austin Peay State University Women's Track and FieldMemphis, TN – With the outdoor season winding to an inexorable close, Austin Peay State University track and field put the finishing touches on another solid weekend at the Memphis Tiger Invitational, Saturday.

Another week marked another win for junior Savannah Amato in the pole vault. The Delaware, Ohio native hit 3.92m (12-10.25) for the win, with freshman Morgan Bradley (3.67m; 12-0.50) and junior Dascha Hix (3.67m; 12-0.50) fifth and sixth, respectively.

APSU’s Chancis Jones earns OVC Field Athlete of the Week honors

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University jumps specialist Chancis Jones has been named adidas®/Ohio Valley Conference Female Co-Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday morning.

Jones got the nod thanks to an exemplary weekend in at the Memphis Tiger Invitational that saw her shoot up the OVC best lists in both the long and triple jump.

Her fourth-place leap in the long jump at 6.08m (19-11.50) equaled Kaylnn Pitts for best by a Gov, third-best in the OVC and 42nd in the NCAA East this season, while her third-place, 12.90m (42-4.00) triple jump was a personal-best which moved her into second in the league.

APSU Chancis Jones

For Jones, it’s her first career weekly honor from the Ohio Valley Conference and third by a Governor in 2016-17; Savannah Amato won for weeks of February 22nd (Indoor) and April 5th (Outdoor).

A handful of Govs, minus Jones, will compete at the Billy Hayes Invitational this weekend in Bloomington, Indiana.

The Governors have been shooting it well of late (45.4 percent over the last six games), but have struggled stopping opponents (55.4 percent opponent field goal percentage during the same stretch) and will face a Hoosier squad that is shooting 51.0 percent as a team in 2016-17.
