Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s (APSU) soccer team opened Ohio Valley Conference play this past weekend, at Morgan Brothers Field, and will be joined this up-coming week in conference play by the Governors volleyball and football teams.

All three teams have had success during their OVC preseason schedules with all three posting winning records prior to the start to their OVC schedules.

APSU Volleyball takes on Northern Kentucky, Evansville this weekend

APSU Women's VolleyballEvansville, IN – Off to its best start since 1984, Austin Peay State University’s (APSU) volleyball team will look to match the program’s record start when it competes in the Dunn Hospitality Invitational hosted by Evansville, Saturday.

The Governors will face Northern Kentucky in a 10:00am contest before meeting host Evansville in a 3:00pm affair at Meeks Family Fieldhouse.

APSU Women's VolleyballMurfreesboro, TN – Sophomore Brooke Moore posted a match-high 13 kills, leading Austin Peay State University (APSU)’s volleyball team to a three-set sweep (25-22, 25-15, 25-18) of host Middle Tennessee in the opening match of the Blue Raider Bash, Friday night, at Alumni Memorial Gym.

Austin Peay (4-0) rallied from early deficits in all three sets of the match.

Austin Peay Lady Govs Volleyball to play in Hampton Inn Bama Bash Tournament this weekend

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsTuscaloosa, AL – For the second consecutive season, Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team will compete in the Hampton Inn Bama Bash, hosted by Alabama, this weekend at Foster Auditorium.

Austin Peay (2-8) has been playing a frenetic schedule with 10 matches in the season’s first 11 days. The Lady Govs will tack on four more matches in this weekend’s event, beginning with a 2:00pm, Friday contest against East Tennessee.

Doyle Named CIAF APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State UniversityNikki DoyleClarksville, TN – Nikki Doyle, a junior on the Austin Peay State University volleyball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Doyle, a junior outside hitter, posted double-digit kills in each match of the Lady Govs stay at the MT Blue Raider Bash and now has posted 10 or more kills in seven consecutive matches.

The Santa Maria, CA native, recorded 49 kills in four matches, averaging 3.5 kills per set, while accounting for 52.5 points on the weekend. Doyle had 14 kills in the Lady Govs victory against in-state rival East Tennessee. «Read the rest of this article»

Lady Govs down East Tennessee to complete Murfreesboro stay

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsMurfreesboro, TN – Slowly but surely, Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team showed improvement on offense and it paid off in the final match of the MT Blue Raider Bash with a four-set victory over East Tennessee, Saturday afternoon at Alumni Memorial Gym.

Austin Peay (2-5) conquered the two things that hampered it in the tournament’s first three matches. First, the offense found some rhythm, with double-digit kills in all four sets while running efficiently with a .262 attack percentage.

Lady Govs Continue Challenging Non-Conference Slate at Blue Raider Bash

 

APSU Sports: Women’s Volleyball

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsMurfreesboro, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team will make the 80-mile trip down Interstate 24 for a four-match stay at the MT Blue Raider Bash, Friday and Saturday.

Austin Peay will begin its stay at Middle Tennessee with a noon, Friday contest against Florida International at Alumni Memorial Gym. The Lady Govs then will meet Missouri in a 5:00pm contest at the Murphy Center. Saturday’s action is entirely at Alumni Memorial Gym, beginning with a noon contest against Auburn before APSU wraps up its trip with a 4:30pm outing against East Tennessee.

Economos named to Bama Bash all-tournament squad

 

Austin Peay State UniversityPaige EconomosTuscaloosa, AL – Senior libero Paige Economos was named to the Hampton Inn Bama Bash all-tournament team, Saturday, following the conclusion of tourney play.

Economos, of Crystal Lake, IL, posted 61 digs in the Lady Govs three matches, averaging 5.55 digs per set. She recorded a weekend best 25 digs in Austin Peay’s four-set loss to Texas State. It is Economos’ second career all-tournament honor. «Read the rest of this article»

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsTuscaloosa, AL – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team split its final two matches at the Hampton Inn Bama Bash, Saturday, defeating Alabama State in three sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-19) before falling to Texas State in four sets (9-25, 13-25, 25-23, 19-25).

Austin Peay (1-2) dominated the three set affair against Alabama State (0-3), trailing only in the early going of each set before piecing together set-deciding runs each time. In the opening set, the Lady Govs scored five straight points, including two kills by senior outside hitter Kayla Grantham, to build a 16-12 lead they would not relinquish.
