Tennessee State ParksNashville, TN – Tennessee State Parks will offer free, guided hikes at all 56 state parks the day after Thanksgiving, November 23rd, 2018. Dunbar Cave State Park will be holding an “After Thanksgiving Hike” Wednesday.

“Tennessee’s state parks are once again offering the opportunity to get outdoors the day after Thanksgiving to engage in healthy, fun activities,” said Brock Hill, deputy commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. “It’s a chance to explore the state parks with loved ones around the holidays, with skilled rangers leading the way.”

Tennessee State Parks Offer Rewards through Healthy Parks Healthy Person Program

 

Tennessee State ParksNashville, TN – Being active outdoors is not only good for your health – it can earn you Tennessee State Parks merchandise, golf rounds, free camping or even cabin stays thanks to a new program.

Tennessee State Parks and the Tennessee Department of Health have partnered to develop a web application called Healthy Parks Healthy Person, which allows Tennesseans to log their activities at Tennessee State Parks in exchange for points that can be redeemed for rewards.

Dunbar Cave State Park to host Student Volunteers on Tennessee Promise Saturday

 

Dunbar Cave State ParkClarksville, TN – Tennessee State Parks are offering volunteer events across the state to help Tennessee Promise scholars log community service hours on Saturday, June 24th, 2017.

Get some of your Tennessee Promise hours knocked out by volunteering at Dunbar Cave State Park. They could use your help to repaint the fence around the parking lot. They will provide the paint and the brushes, you provide the labor! It is recommended that you wear old clothes and shoes as painting can be messy.

Dunbar Cave State Park to hold First Day Hike on January 1st, 2017

 

Dunbar Cave State Park - Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – Dunbar Cave State Park located at 401 Old Dunbar Cave Road will hold a First Day Hike on January 1st, 2017. Come out and join them on their first hike of the year! The hike will start at 8:30am and end around 9:30am.

They will walk the 1 mile Short Loop Trail and see if any animals are out and stirring. This is a moderate hike so wear good walking shoes. It is suitable for all ages.

Everyone will meet up at the Dunbar Cave Visitor Center.

Tennessee State Parks Host Day After Thanksgiving Hikes

 

Tennessee State ParksNashville, TN – Tennessee State Parks will offer free, guided hikes at all 56 of its parks on Friday, November 25th, the day after Thanksgiving. This is the third year for this event, and one in a series of five statewide ranger-led hikes throughout the year.

“Our public lands are here for all to enjoy and the After Thanksgiving Hikes are a perfect way to have fun with friends and family during the holiday,” said Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Bob Martineau. “Our parks offer something for everyone, so all ages and abilities are encouraged to join us for a peaceful stroll or a rugged trek.”

Tennessee State ParksNashville, TN – Tennessee State Parks will celebrate National Trails Day with free, guided hikes at all 56 parks on Saturday, June 4th.

The variety of ranger-led hikes will include historical tours, waterfall viewing, trail building and much more. With more than 1,000 miles of trails ranging from easy, paved paths to rugged backcountry trails to scenic waterways, there’s a hike for everyone.

“Tennessee is home to some of the most beautiful hiking trails in the country and you won’t be disappointed at any one of our state parks,” said Deputy Commissioner for Parks and Conservation, Brock Hill. “From an experienced hiker to someone new to the outdoors, all are welcome to enjoy the day with us out on the trail.”

Tennessee State Parks Asks Public Not to Move Firewood

 

Tennessee State ParksNashville, TN – Tennessee State Parks, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry and The Nature Conservancy, is advising the public of a new policy regarding bringing firewood into parks.

Beginning June 1st, Tennessee State Parks will advise visitors to use certified heat-treated wood. The new policy aims to prevent or slow the introduction of exotic insects or diseases into parks that could otherwise threaten the health of our trees and forests.

The emerald ash borer is one of many harmful pests that can reside undetected in firewood.

Over 160 Bird Species Identified at Seven Islands State Birding Park

Tennessee State ParksKnoxville, TN – Tennessee State Parks is pleased to announce the newest addition to the parks system, Seven Islands State Birding Park. State and local officials attended the official opening of the 56th state park Tuesday in Knoxville.

Seven Islands State Birding Park offers activities including observation, hiking and a small boat launch for canoes and kayaks. The property is adjacent to the French Broad River and aquatic and riparian habitats support an impressive diversity of wildlife species. Over 160 species of birds have been identified.

Three Tennessee State Parks Among the Top 100 Family Friendly Fishing and Boating Destinations

 

Paris Landing, Pickwick Landing and Tims Ford Recognized by Take Me Fishing

Tennessee State ParksNashville, TN – Paris Landing State Park, Pickwick Landing State Park and Tims Ford State Park were listed among the Top 100 Family Friendly Places to Boat and Fish in the U.S., according to Take Me Fishing, whose first Top 100 list was released this month. Park and recreation areas in 24 states were represented in the Top 100.

“We are thrilled to have three of our great Tennessee State Parks on the list of family-friendly boating and fishing destinations in the country,” Deputy Commissioner Brock Hill said.

Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park holding Hikes Saturday

Tennessee State ParksNashville, TN – In conjunction with National Trails Day, Tennessee State Parks will host free, guided hikes on Saturday, June 7th, encouraging outdoor enthusiasts to participate in several planned activities across the state. Each state park will host its own special hike, offering a variety of family-friendly activities including historical hikes, educational programming, re-enactments and wildlife watching.

“We encourage everyone to join us for the variety of interesting hikes that will be held across the state,” Deputy Commissioner Brock Hill said. “National Trails Day gives individuals and families an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and what nature has to offer.”
