Instant Peay Play: APSU Football’s defense continues to stifle opponents run game

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) football team continues to be one of the best run-stopping defenses in the nation, as this past weekend in Macon, GA, the Governors held the Mercer Bears rushing attack to less than 50 yards from scrimmage.

In giving up just 43 net yards from scrimmage on the ground to Mercer, it marks the third straight week the Govs run defense has allowed their opponents less than 60 total rushing yards net in a contest, with APSU giving up 53 yards to North Carolina Central in the season opener on August 29th and 32 yards to Central Arkansas on September 7th.

APSU Governors Basketball drops home game to East Tennessee 80-74

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – East Tennessee staved off a second-half Austin Peay State University rally as it defeated the Governors, 80-74, Wednesday night, in non-conference basketball action played at Dave Aaron Arena.

The loss snapped the Governors modest two-game winning streak and dropped them to 4-4 on the season. East Tennessee improved to 4-5.

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay Governors will play host to the East Tennessee State University Buchaneers, Wednesday night in Clarksville for a 7:00pm tipoff.

This is the second time in as many games that the Govs will be facing a former Ohio Valley Conference member. ETSU was a member of the OVC from 1957-58 through 1977-78. Last Saturday night APSU defeated former OVC member Youngstown State, 88-86.

Clarksville High School Wildcats see fourth-quarter lead slip away in Hall of Fame Game loss to Beech

 

Clarksville High School WildcatsClarksville, TN – Clarksville High School boys basketball team picked a bad time to go almost two and a half minutes without a field goal, November 12th at William Workman Gymnasium, as Beech High School rallied for a four-point Hall of Fame Game victory over the Wildcats, 57-53.

Leading 46-45 following a basket by Tariq Silver with 4:07 to go in the game, Clarksville High (0-1) wouldn’t score again for the next 2:26, while the Buccaneers hit four of five free throws over that stretch to take the lead for good, 49-46.
