Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – For the 16th consecutive Halloween, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) at Austin Peay State University (APSU) is collecting new and gently used children’s books for its Candy for the Mind project.

Members of the campus and local community are invited to support this effort through donations of books or money for the purchase of books.

APSU Phi Kappa Phi chapter awarded literacy grant

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP)—the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines—recently presented John Blake, Austin Peay State University associate professor of engineering technology, with a 2014 Literacy Grant. Blake, president of APSU’s PKP chapter, is one of 14 recipients nationwide to receive the award.

For the 10th consecutive Halloween, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) at APSU is collecting new and gently used children’s books for its Candy for the Mind project. Members of the campus and local community are invited to support this effort through donations of books or funds for the purchase of books.

G.H.O.S.T. at Austin Peay State University was wholesome family fun

 

Austin Peay State UniversityG.H.O.S.T., is a great Halloween tradition at Austin Peay State University. The acronym stands for Greater Halloween Options for Safe Trick or Treating. The event brings together campus groups and organizations to give children a fun time in a safe family friendly environment.

One of those groups the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) through their Candy for the Mind program, has been working since 2003 to grow the love for reading in children. To that end they distribute books to children during the G.H.O.S.T. event, last year they gave our more 1,500 books to community children.

Trick or Treating

Trick or Treating

While Halloween falls on a Sunday this year, Clarksville-Montgomery County has decided not to move the official trick or treating night. They also do not set an official time for trick or treating. Most people would expect trick or treaters between the hours of 6:00pm till around 9:00pm. Fort Campbell has moved their trick or treating night to Saturday; and there, trick or treating is allowed between 6:00pm and 8:00pm.

PKP at APSU needs used, new children’s books to give as Halloween treats

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For the eighth consecutive Halloween, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) at Austin Peay State University is collecting new and gently used children’s books for its Candy for the Mind project.

Through this project, PKP distributed more than 1,500 books to community children during last year’s G.H.O.S.T. (Great Halloween Options for Safe Trick-or-Treating), the on-campus alternative for safe trick-or-treating. Currently, PKP has some books on hand for distribution during G.H.O.S.T., slated this year from 4:00pm-7:00pm, Sunday, October 31st but needs many more. Since the inception of the Candy for the Mind project in 2003, hundreds of children who trick-or-treat at APSU have been thrilled to receive a book as a Halloween treat. «Read the rest of this article»
