Clarksville, TN – The Governors Club, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) athletics booster club, has announced that Joe and Cathi Maynard and Ron Morton will be inducted into the Governors Club Red Coat Society.
Joe and Cathi Maynard will be recognized at halftime of the men’s basketball game against UT Martin that evening. Ron Morton will be recognized at a later date.
Joe and Cathi Maynard are recent members of the Austin Peay family, but they have quickly become two of the Governors biggest supporters.
Clarksville, TN – Local businessman Charles Hand was recently recognized for 10 years of service to the Clarksville-Montgomery County Airport Authority.
Hand has been a member of the airport’s governing board since July 1st, 2007, serving two consecutive five-year terms, the maximum continuous allowed by the authority’s bylaws. His second term expires as of June 30th, 2017.
Clarksville, TN – The Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for three annual awards: The Ted A. Crozier Sr. Community Commitment Award, Boots to Suits: Veteran of the Year and Young Professional of the Year.
Nominations must be received at the Chamber by Friday, April 7th 3027 and winners will be announced at the Chamber’s Annual Gala on Tuesday, May 9th.
Clarksville, TN – Saturday, January 31st, 2015 marked the 2nd Annual LEAP Gala Celebrating Youth Development at the Emmanuel Family Life Center. Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan issued a proclamation with was delivered by City Councilwoman Wanda Smith designating January 31st Youth Development Day and urging those is the Clarksville community to take time on this day to acknowledge the work of the LEAP Organization in making a positive impact on youth in our community.
The Gala opened with a string musical ensemble by the Brio Strings as guests were greeted, seated, and served by youth and mentors. Other entertainment included performances by West Creek High School Step Team, the Distinguished Steppers Unlimited, Mercedes Johnson singing “Confidence” by Tasha Cobb, and a Youth Fashion Show organized by Sharon Edwards featuring fashions from local designers ELO.

Clarksville, TN – Ron Shumate, the former Chattanooga and Southeast Missouri basketball coach, had a favorite saying about fans: “They are with you win or win.”
That certainly is not the case with this year’s newest Red Coat Society inductees, Hal Mathews and Terry Griffin. Through thick and thin, great and not-so-good seasons in APSU athletics, both became Austin Peay fans early in their respective lives and remain so as adults.
The Red Coat Society, now in its 12th year, serves as a Hall of Fame of service for the Governors Club, APSU’s Athletics booster club.
Mathews and Griffin will be honored at halftime of the Governors-Murray State men’s game, Saturday. A reception for them will be held at 3:30pm, Saturday prior to the Lady Govs-Racers contest.

Unchallenged for years as the official mascot for Austin Peay State University, Governor Peay X’s stranglehold on that role appears in serious jeopardy. A new candidate – known as ‘The Gov’ – has emerged to oppose the incumbent in a race to become the face of Austin Peay.
Austin Peay is rife with change at the moment. A new logo, refurbished football stadium and the addition of new President Dr. Alisa White have made the climate right for a challenger to a long-established figure. Though a newcomer to the mascot world, The Gov has picked an opportune moment to throw his hat into the ring to become Austin Peay’s next mascot.
Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Christmas Parade will be bigger and better this year, because joining the local festivities will be the famous Budweiser Clydesdales.
Charles Hand and Budweiser of Clarksville arranged for the visit to Clarksville, and there will be several opportunities for the public to view the magnificent horses.
Montgomery County, TN – The latest business to celebrate their Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification is Budweiser of Clarksville, owned by the Hand family of Clarksville.
Charles Hand, Chairman of the Board of Hand Family Companies, has a history of taking care of the environment. For decades, Hand has been doing his part to keep our community clean. His actions carried over to his family businesses when the Company began participating in the Adopt-A-Highway Program in the early 1990s, and the efforts have been growing ever since.

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s athletic department handed out its individual/team honors and awards for the 2012-13 school year, at the Dunn Center April 29th, with a local product and a transfer taking home the events top award.
