Cannon Show, Basketball to share APSU Governors Radio Network, Thursday

 

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Another busy Thursday is in store for Austin Peay State University athletics, and Clarksville’s radio airwaves will be full of Governor sports action beginning 5:30pm, November 21st.

The Kirby Cannon Show, live from the Gilroy, will hold its usual 6:00pm-7:00pm radio slot this week on WJZM 1400 AM, where Govs football head coach Kirby Cannon and host Brian Rives will discuss last week’s final home game at Governors Stadium as presently constructed and look forward to Saturday’s season-finale at Tennessee Tech.

Instant “Peay” Play: APSU Transfer Tim Phillips looking to make the most of senior season with Govs Football

 

Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – Fifth-year senior running back Tim Phillips is looking to make the most of what he calls a second chance this season with the Austin Peay State University football team and prove that he has what it takes to possibly play at the next level.

Phillips, who played for one of the best high school programs in the nation at Trinity High School in Louisville, KY, transferred this past summer after spending the last four years at Central Michigan University – the same university as first-year head football coach Kirby Cannon.

APSU Governors Football add Two Central Michigan transfers among six late additions

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University head coach Kirby Cannon has gone north to add a couple of familiar faces to the Governors’ 2013 roster.

Running back Tim Phillips, who enjoyed an incredible prep career in Louisville before spending the last four seasons at Central Michigan, and safety Leron Eaddy (pronounced ee-dee), who played for Cannon the past three seasons in the Chippewas secondary, will play their final respective college seasons as Governors.

Austin Peay State University names Derek van der Mewre 12th APSU Athletics Director

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – In a June 5th press conference in the front lobby of the Dunn Center, the former deputy athletics director and chief operating officer at Central Michigan University Derek van der Mewre was officially named Austin Peay State University’s 12th athletics director.

van der Merwe (pronounced van de meer) was chosen out of the five finalists that were invited for on-campus interviews conducted in late May.

Austin Peay State University hires Kirby Cannon as new Head Football Coach

 

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Kirby Cannon, who served as secondary coach at Central Michigan the last three years after spending 11 seasons as head coach at Missouri S&T, has been hired as Austin Peay State University’s 18th head football coach.

Lady Govs volleyball falters late in loss to Central Michigan

 

APSU Sports: Women’s Volleyball

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsIndianapolis, IN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team faltered late in a four-set loss (19-25, 25-22, 14-25, 27-29) to Central Michigan, Friday afternoon, at the Butler Invitational.

Austin Peay (2-6) was consistent in the match’s first two sets, which were both close affairs ultimately decided by APSU’s defensive effort. Central Michigan’s (3-3) offense was left unchecked in the opening set – posting 16 kills and a .344 attack percentage – and posted a 25-19 victory.

Lady Govs Seek to Maintain Momentum at Butler Invitational

 

APSU Sports: Women’s Volleyball

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsIndianapolis, IN – After a weekend where its offense showed steady improvement, Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team will seek to maintain that momentum in its three-match stay at the Butler Invitational, Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Govs will meet Central Michigan in a 1:30pm (CT), Friday contest before facing host Butler at 5:00pm that day. Austin Peay will meet  Elon at 1:30pm, Saturday, in their final match of the tournament.
