Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUMartin, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team saw its 2013-14 season come to an end in an historic performance by UT Martin, Saturday, at the Elam Center.

Behind 44 points from Heather Butler on the Skyhawks’ Senior Day, the Lady Govs saw their Ohio Valley Conference Tournament hopes evaporate in a 116-85 defeat.

The Lady Govs saw their current losing streak reach three games after suffering a 95-81 OVC-opening loss at Tennessee State, Saturday.

The Lady Govs senior duo of Whitney Hanley and Jasmine Rayner scored 22 and 21 points, respectively.

Faulkner named to OVC All-Tournament squad

OVC Basketball ChampionshipNashville, TN – Senior Brooke Faulkner of the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team was named to the Ohio Valley Conference’s All-Tournament team, the league announced, Saturday, following the tournament’s conclusion.

Faulkner, of Cynthiana, KY, finished the tournament averaging 14.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in tournament play. She becomes the 16th Lady Govs player to receive OVC All-Tournament recognition.

Lady Govs felled by Morehead State’s second-half comeback

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMorehead, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team was unable to keep Morehead State off the free-throw line in the second half and dropped a 70-58 Ohio Valley Conference contest, Saturday night at Johnson Arena. 

Austin Peay (7-16, 6-5 OVC) could not hold on to an 11-point first-half lead. The Lady Govs surrendered seven consecutive points to end the opening frame and saw their lead cut to two points, 32-30, at the halftime break.

Lady Govs close out January with visit to Morehead State

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMorehead, KY – Austin Peay women’s basketball team will wrap up the January portion of its schedule with a 4:00pm (CT), Saturday, Ohio Valley Conference contest against Morehead State at Johnson Arena.

The Lady Govs started the two-game road trip with a 61-56 loss at Eastern Kentucky, Thursday. Austin Peay never trailed by more than seven points in the contest but held the lead for less than four minutes total. The Lady Govs lost both the rebounding (41-42) and turnover (19-16) battles, but it was the seven point free-throw differential (9-16) that proved too much to overcome.

Lady Govs stun league-leading Morehead State

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Junior Whitney Hanley made a pair of free throws with 16 seconds remaining and blocked a three-point try just before the final horn to lead Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team to a 60-57 Ohio Valley Conference victory against Morehead State, Tuesday night, at the Dunn Center.

Austin Peay (4-9, 3-1 OVC) used a strong defensive effort to record its second consecutive victory, holding Morehead State (8-4, 3-1 OVC) to 34.5 percent shooting – a season-low by an APSU opponent. The Lady Govs held senior Chynna Bozeman – the OVC’s Preseason Player of the Year – to a season-low eight points on 2-of-14 field-goal shooting.

Lady Govs to receive visit from OVC co-leader Morehead State

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay will look to put a bow on the pre-Christmas Break portion its 2010-11 schedule when it hosts Ohio Valley Conference co-leading Morehead State in a 5:15pm, Tuesday contest at the Dunn Center.

The Lady Govs wrapped up their season’s first home victory in their last outing, a 70-60 decision against Eastern Kentucky, Sunday. Austin Peay won the rebounding battle, 47-29, for the fifth consecutive game, but this time turned the edge into a victory, scoring 19 second-chance points off its 22 offensive rebounds. The Lady Govs offense continued its recent struggles, making just 32.8 percent (20-of-61) of its field goals.

Late first-half collapse dooms Lady Govs at Morehead State

 

APSU Governors LogoMOREHEAD, KY – The final nine and a half minutes of the first half proved to be the fatal moments as Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team dropped its sixth-straight contest with a 79-56 Ohio Valley Conference loss at Morehead State, Saturday night, at Johnson Arena.

Austin Peay (3-11, 2-1 OVC) kept the game close throughout the opening 11 minutes, grabbing the lead twice and forcing one tie. After Austin Peay grabbed its last lead, 12-11, with 13:01 remaining, Morehead State used a 9-2 run to build what was then its largest lead, 20-14, with 10:39 left. The Lady Govs battled back with the next four points and closed within two points, 20-18, at the 9:33 mark after freshman Meghan Bussabarger made one of her two free throws.
