Tennessee Titans last game against Tampa Bay Buccaneers

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans traveled to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1 of the 2015 season. In QB Marcus Mariota’s NFL debut, the Titans’ rookie quarterback and second-overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft threw four touchdown passes to lead Tennessee to a 42-14 victory over the Buccaneers.

In doing so, Mariota became the second player in league history to throw for four touchdowns in his first NFL start.

Series History between Tennessee Titans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – In 11 all-time meetings between the Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Titans have won nine of the games in the series, which dates back to Tampa Bay’s expansion season of 1976. The Titans won five consecutive meetings from 1989 through 2003.

The first game between the two franchises was a historic occasion. On September 12th, 1976, the Buccaneers, led by head coach John McKay and quarterback Steve Spurrier, played the inaugural game in team history against the Oilers at the Astrodome. The Oilers, coached by Bum Phillips and quarterbacked by Dan Pastorini, won the game by a final score of 20-0.

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – In their first game under interim head coach Dan Campbell, the Miami Dolphins built a commanding lead in the first half over the Tennessee Titans and never looked back, ultimately prevailing by a final score of 38-10.

The Dolphins defense rarely allowed the Titans and rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota to get comfortable. They forced a total of four turnovers – two fumbles and two interceptions – and sacked Titans quarterbacks six times, including five sacks in the first half. Left defensive end Cameron Wake was the primary antagonist, recording four sacks in the first half and forcing two fumbles, both of which were recovered by the Dolphins.

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans (1-0) go on the road this week for the second consecutive game to begin the season, traveling to face the Cleveland Browns (0-1). Kickoff at FirstEnergy Stadium (capacity 67,431) is scheduled for 1:00pm EDT/Noon CDT on Sunday, September 20th.

A win this week would give the Titans a 2-0 start to the regular season for the first time since 2008, and it would mark only the second time in franchise history the Titans won back-to-back road games in Weeks 1 and 2 (1981).

Tennessee Titans slay Tampa Bay Buccaneers 42-14; Marcus Mariota Shines

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans romped all over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday on their way to a 42-14 victory. The Titans could not have asked for a better start to the 2015 season.

The game received a lot of hype as it featured the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft Jameis Winston, with the Bucs, against the No. 2 overall pick Marcus Mariota with the Titans. The game was lopsided from the start.

Tennessee Titans’ GM Ruston Webster enters Fourth NFL Draft

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The selection process will be the fourth for the Tennessee Titans overseen by General Manager Ruston Webster, who was named general manager on January 18th, 2012. His first three drafts yielded 21 total players, and 18 of those finished the 2014 season on the 53-man roster or injured reserve.

Webster spearheaded the selection of six players in the 2014 NFL Draft: Michigan tackle Taylor Lewan (first round), Washington running back Bishop Sankey (second round), Penn State defensive lineman DaQuan Jones (fourth round), Wyoming defensive back Marqueston Huff (fourth round), Kentucky linebacker Avery Williamson (fifth round) and Louisiana State quarterback Zach Mettenberger (sixth round).

Tennessee Titans lose 29-28 to Cleveland Browns at LP Field

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Cleveland Browns (2-2) down 28-10 and the end of the first half score 19 unanswered points to beat the Tennessee Titans (1-4) 29-28 at LP Field Sunday. Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer connected with Travis Benjamin for a 6 yard touchdown pass with 1:09 remaining in the 4th quarter to seal the deal for Cleveland.

“Well, you know, needless to say it was an unbelievably tough loss for us today after we played so well in the first half and have things not go our way in the second half,” said Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt after the game.

Tennessee Titans’ general manager Ruston Webster to begin third NFL Draft

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – Tennessee Titans’ Ruston Webster, who was named general manager on January 18th, 2012, ran the Titans’ draft in each of the last two years. Those two drafts yielded 15 total players, and 13 of those finished the 2013 season on the 53-man roster or injured reserve.

Webster’s first-ever pick as general manager was Baylor wide receiver Kendall Wright, chosen in 2012 with the 20th selection in the first round.
