Well both happened this past weekend for a pair of Austin Peay State University (APSU) student athletes, with Governors pole vaulter Savannah Amato making Ohio Valley Conference history at the conference’s indoor championship meet, while softball’s Morgan Rackel pitched a game for the ages down in the Louisiana bayou.

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) senior pole vaulter Savannah Amato began her chase for history, December 1st, 2018 as she begins her senior season and the chase to become the Ohio Valley Conference’s all-time leader in pole vaulting gold medals.

Amato, from Delaware, OH, enters her final season having won the last five OVC championships in the pole vault – along with a third-place finish in the indoor championship as a freshman — tying Southeast Missouri’s Michelle Jett (2003-06) and former Gov Carrie Burggraf (2007-10) for the conference’s all-time lead in the event.

APSU Women's Track and FieldClarksville, TN – Name an accolade and APSU’s Savannah Amato achieved it or came pretty dang close in 2017-18.

The Delaware, Ohio native was just about as productive as it was possible to be during her junior campaign. Eight wins, two school records, two more Ohio Valley Conference Championship gold medals and another appearance at the NCAA Regional level makes for a busy season indeed.

This is the seventh year in a row that Austin Peay has had at least one athlete earn regional qualification.

Austin Peay State University Women's Track and FieldMemphis, TN – With the outdoor season winding to an inexorable close, Austin Peay State University track and field put the finishing touches on another solid weekend at the Memphis Tiger Invitational, Saturday.

Another week marked another win for junior Savannah Amato in the pole vault. The Delaware, Ohio native hit 3.92m (12-10.25) for the win, with freshman Morgan Bradley (3.67m; 12-0.50) and junior Dascha Hix (3.67m; 12-0.50) fifth and sixth, respectively.

APSU Track and Field’s Savannah Amato shatters Austin Peay Pole Vault record at Hilltopper Relays

APSU Women's Track and FieldBowling Green, KY – In one of the most incredible performances in Austin Peay State University track and field history, junior Savannah Amato shattered a long-held record and all but guaranteed a third straight appearance in the NCAA East Preliminary thanks to her performance at the Hilltopper Relays.

Amato’s 4.17m (13-8.25) mark, cleared on her second attempt at the height, shattered APSU Athletics Hall of Famer Carrie Burggraf’s 2010 mark, giving the Delaware, Ohio native sole possession of both the indoor and outdoor school records.
