Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – At long last, Austin Peay State University football team returns home to the friendly confines of Governors Stadium for a 4:00pm, Saturday, contest against Eastern Illinois.

After a three-game road swing—where Austin Peay has not won since 2010—the Govs are back in front of the home fans against a winless Eastern Illinois squad facing its first 2015 Ohio Valley Conference opponent.

APSU Governors Football lose Home Opener to Eastern Illinois Panthers, 63-7

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University, playing in its first home game of the 2013 season October 10th at Governors Stadium, saw Ohio Valley Conference opponent Eastern Illinois University score touchdowns on each of its first four drives to help propel the Panthers to a 63-7 victory.

Eastern Illinois (5-1, 2-0 OVC) struck quickly to start the night’s scoring, needing only 80 seconds and five plays to go the 70 yards –with Taylor Duncan taking it the in from 27 yards out for the touchdown and the 7-0 lead.

APSU Football’s Ben Stansfield earns preseason All-OVC Honors

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUNashville, TN – Senior offensive tackle Ben Stansfield was a preseason all-conference selection and Austin Peay State University was picked ninth in the Ohio Valley Conference at by a vote of the conference coaches and sports information directors announced July 22nd at the annual OVC Media Day.

Eastern Illinois picked to win Ohio Valley Conference Football Title; Austin Peay picked last

 

Ohio Valley Conference - OVCNashville, TN – For the first time since the 2007 season Eastern Illinois has been picked the favorite in the Ohio Valley Conference football race.

The defending champion Panthers picked up 12 of the 18 first-place votes in the 2013 poll which is a vote of league head coaches and sports information directors.

Eastern Illinois Panthers passing game overwhelms Austin Peay Governors Football

Austin Peay State University GovernorsCharleston, IL – Jimmy Garoppolo threw five touchdown passes, all longer than 50 yards, to lead Eastern Illinois to a 65-15 victory against Austin Peay State University, Saturday afternoon, in Ohio Valley Conference action at O’Brien Field.

The loss left the Govs 0-5 on the season, 0-3 in OVC play.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsCharleston, IL – After the past 25 years with legendary Bob Spoo leading the program, a new face is in charge of the Eastern Illinois program that will face Austin Peay, 1:30pm, Saturday. Not only is Dino Babers the new coach but he also has brought along a different offensive style.

Historically, Eastern Illinois has had superb quarterbacks, like former Walter Payton Award recipient and current Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. But Babers brought an offense with him from Baylor that is reminiscent of the one run by 2011 Heisman Trophy recipient Robert Griffin III.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Since rejoining the Ohio Valley Conference the Governors own a 1-1 record against Eastern Illinois. The Govs won 15-13 in Charleston two years ago but lost at home 30-20 last season.

Austin Peay enters the contest on a four-game losing streak. The Govs have endured at least a four-game losing streak in seven of the last eight seasons.

Austin Peay comes into the game ranked 111th (out of 117 teams) or higher in four defensive categories–rushing defense (117th/260.00 ypg), total defense (113th/455.43 ypg), scoring defense (116th/40.86 ppg) and sacks (115th/.71).
