APSU Governors Baseball set to begin Second Round of OVC Tournament Thursday

 

Austin Peay State University Governors SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay’s nationally-ranked baseball team will put its program-record 12-game win streak on the line when it opens Ohio Valley Conference Tournament play with a 3:00pm, Thursday contest against an opponent to be determined.

Nikki Doyle becomes Austin Peay Lady Govs Volleyball’s first three-time All-OVC pick

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceBrentwood, TN – Senior outside hitter Nikki Doyle became the first Austin Peay State University volleyball player to receive three first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference honors when she was selected to the 2012 All-OVC team, Wednesday.

Doyle was the only Austin Peay volleyball player named to the 14-member All-OVC team. Morehead State’s Ellie Roberson was the league’s Player of the Year and led the balloting on the squad.

Austin Peay safety Antwaun Majors named preseason All-OVC by Phil Steele pub

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceCleveland, OH – Senior safety Antwaun Majors has been named preseason first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference safety by Phil Steele Magazine in its Fall 2012 Preview.

Majors, who led Austin Peay in tackles last season with 88, was the Governors only first-team selection. Junior defensive lineman Reese Bulmash and senior kicker Stephen Stansell were named second-team All-OVC.

Austin Peay Lady Govs Basketball faces the Morehead State Eagles in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament’s opening game

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – The eighth-seeded Austin Peay women’s basketball team will face fifth-seed Morehead State in the noon, Wednesday, opening game of the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Championship at Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium. The Lady Govs defeated Southeast Missouri, 88-84, Saturday to earn the final spot in the tournament.

Morehead State wrapped up its regular-season slate with a 72-70 overtime loss to SIU Edwardsville, Saturday. The two teams split the regular-season series with the home team winning each contest. Morehead State won the first meeting, 74-67 on December 31st, before Austin Peay returned the favor with an 88-81 overtime win in Clarksville, February 18th.

Austin Peay Mens Basketball’s John Fraley overcomes concussion to earn Second-Team All-OVC

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceJohn FraleyNashville, TN – The start of John Fraley’s senior season was as inauspicious as the beginning of his Austin Peay basketball career.

Fraley, who was redshirted in 2007-08 to acclimate himself to the Division I game, suffered a concussion in the 20110-12 season opening game at Middle Tennessee and proceeded to miss the Govs next nine games, a stretch that saw APSU go 1-8 without its big man. Austin Peay Women’s Basketball’s Whitney Hanley becomes 9th Lady Gov to earn First-Team All-OVC honors

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceWhitney HanleyBrentwood, TN – Senior guard Whitney Hanley, of the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team, has been named first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference the league office announced, Tuesday.

Hanley, of Mt. Washington, KY, averaged 18.9 points per game during the regular-season, ranking 28th nationally and third among OVC scorers. She raised her play in conference action, averaging 20.9 points per game in OVC play. «Read the rest of this article»

Austin Peay State University GovernorsJackson, TN – Austin Peay State University starting pitcher Jeremy Dobbs was named the Ohio Valley Conference’s “Pitcher of the Year,” head coach Gary McClure received his fifth “Coach of the Year” citation and 10 Austin Peay baseball student-athletes received postseason recognition, the league office announced during the postseason baseball awards banquet, Tuesday night.
