American Heart Association reports Physically active Women have significantly decreased risk of Heart Disease

Dallas, TX – American Heart Association says women who spent less of their day in sedentary behaviors—sitting or reclining while awake—had a significantly decreased risk of heart disease, but there has been an increase in the incidence of younger women having acute heart attacks in the U.S., according to two studies in a special Go Red for Women issue of the American Heart Association’s journal Circulation, published in February, American Heart Month.
This is the third annual issue of the journal dedicated to research about women and cardiovascular health.

Dallas, TX – Sudden, unpredictable drops in personal income during young adulthood are associated with an increased risk of developing heart disease and/or dying from any cause, according to new research in the American Heart Association’s journal Circulation.
In the United States, the recent rise in income inequality suggests that a larger proportion of the population faces poverty and economic difficulties.
Young adults who had two or more significant drops in income over a 15-year period had nearly double the risk of cardiovascular disease or dying prematurely. (American Heart Association)

American Heart Association says Multivitamins do not promote Cardiovascular Health

Dallas, TX – Taking multivitamin and mineral supplements does not prevent heart attacks, strokes or cardiovascular death, according to a new analysis of 18 studies published in Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes, an American Heart Association journal.
“We meticulously evaluated the body of scientific evidence,” said study lead author Joonseok Kim, M.D., assistant professor of cardiology in the Department of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. “We found no clinical benefit of multivitamin and mineral use to prevent heart attacks, strokes or cardiovascular death.”

American Heart Association says Abuse and Adversity in Childhood linked to more Cardiovascular Risk in Adulthood
American Heart Association Scientific Statement
Dallas, TX – Children and teens who are abused, witness violence, are bullied or face other adversities are more likely to develop cardiovascular diseases in adulthood, according to a new scientific statement by the American Heart Association published in the Association’s journal Circulation.
The statement is based on a review of existing scientific research published in peer-reviewed medical journals that documents a strong association between adverse experiences in childhood and teen years and a greater likelihood of developing risk factors such as obesity, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes earlier than those not experiencing adverse experiences.
Children and teens who experience abuse, bullying, neglect or witness violence and other forms of adversity are more likely to develop heart and blood vessel diseases as adults. (American Heart Association)

Physical activity helps reduce heart disease symptoms for patients with heart failure, heart attacks and stroke, and it also helps to improve the age-related erosions of strength, balance, and reduces frailty that particularly affect older heart patients.

Heart-related deaths spike at Christmas according to the American Heart Association
American Heart Association Rapid Access Journal Report
Dallas, TX – Heart-related deaths spike during Christmas, but the effect may have nothing to do with the cold winter season, according to new research in Journal of the American Heart Association, the Open Access Journal of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
“Spikes in deaths from natural causes during Christmas and New Year’s Day has been previously established in the United States,” said Josh Knight, B.Sc., study author and research fellow at the University of Melbourne in Australia.
