2015 APSU Governors Golf Classic has Record Turnout

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – With a record number of teams, players and courses, Austin Peay State University’s annual Governors Golf Classic, in conjunction with the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce, enjoyed its finest showing in the event’s 29-year history, Friday.

Golfers competed at the Clarksville Country Club, Swan Lake Golf Course and at the Links at Novadell in Hopkinsville – the first time participation numbers demanded the event expand to three courses. In all, more than 80 teams appeared on the three courses, featuring more than 300 players.

Austin Peay State University Governors and Chamber Community Golf Classic set for Friday

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Governors and Chamber Community Golf Classic and Partner Celebration Dinner is Friday and pairings have been announced for the one-day, three-course tournament.

The event, which has seen APSU Athletics and the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce combined their two tournaments, will be played Friday at the Clarksville Country Club, Swan Lake Golf Course and The Links at Novadell in Hopkinsville, KY.

The shotgun start for the four-player, best-ball scramble is 10:30am at the three courses.

Teams go low at Austin Peay State University Governor’s Golf Classic

 

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – It took a 48 and a scorecard playoff to win both flights of the 27th annual Governors Golf Classic, Friday, at Swan Lake Golf Course.

The group of Gene Whitfield, David Chesney, Brett Covington Jr. and Douglas Weiland won the morning flight with a 48 and won a scorecard playoff using the back nine. Second place was claimed by Jeff Battles, Steve Lox, Shane Davis and Sam Davis. Joey Tuck, Eric Feijo, Bret Campbell and Taylor Long placed third with a 49.

15th Annual Ladies Golf Tournament won by Team of Cindy Taylor, Gina Deere, Donna Ruggles and Lynn Osborn

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The team of Cindy Taylor, Gina Deere, Donna Ruggles and Lynn Osborn captured the 15th Annual Ladies Golf Tournament on a scorecard playoff, Wednesday, during play at Swan Lake Golf Course.

The quartet fired an 11-under 61 in the four-person scramble, sponsored by Austin Peay State University to raise awareness of women’s athletics. They edged out the team of Jan Watson-Paulette Lynch-Mashea Johnson-Andrea Dunford, who also shot a 61.

Team of Maurer-Pahmier-Haddon-Devine capture 14th Annual Ladies Golf tourney

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The team of Marcy Maurer, Paula Pahmier, Cinda Haddon and Linda Devine captured the First Flight of the 14th Annual Ladies Golf Tournament.

The quartet combined for a eight-under 64 in the four-person scramble sponsored by Austin Peay State University to raise awareness of women’s athletics. They slipped past the team of Margaret Jones, Jane Brake, Sharon Grimes and Nancy Howell, who shot a 65. The group of Betty Stanton, Jackie Jones, June Nicholson and Mary Lou Reynolds ended in third place with a six-under 66.

Lady Govs softball field becomes Cheryl Holt Field

 

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Lady Govs softball field officially became Cheryl Holt Field, Saturday afternoon, in dedication ceremonies prior to Austin Peay State University’s softball doubleheader with Murray State.

Holt, who was Austin Peay’s head volleyball coach for 23 years and has served in the University’s athletics administration since 1997, was Austin Peay’s first softball coach when the program was initiated in 1986. The dedication was part of APSU’s Celebration of Women’s Athletics weekend.

Team of Campbell/Tuck/Glassell/Spell run away with Saturday portion of Governors Golf Classic

 

Austin Peay State University GovernorsThe team of Bret Campbell/Joey Tuck/Brad Glassell/Randy Spell ran away with the Saturday portion of the 24th Annual Governors Golf Classic, played at Swan Lake Golf Course.

That quartet shot an impressive 22-under par 49 in the scramble.

On the women’s side, which covered both Friday and Saturday, the team of Britney Campbell/Amanda Phillips/Jeanette Kramer/Carla Hazelwood, which played Friday, won first place at -16 to ease by the Saturday team of Beth Goodowens/Missy Rye/Margaret Jones/Jane Stevens, who -12.

On the men’s side, a scorecard playoff settled second place as the team of Jake Peterson/George Plaster/David Shipley/Dave Loos came in at -19 but shot a 24 on the back nine. That allowed that group to slip past the group of Wayne Ard/Conn Butts/Joe Douglas/Bob Thomps, who also shot a -19 but had a 25 on the back nine.
