Austin Peay Governors Basketball grabs first OVC victory of year, blow out Eastern Kentucky 80-65

Clarksville Sports NetworkClarksville, TN – Entering Thursday night’s game against Eastern Kentucky, Austin Peay head coach Dave Loos made his message to the team clear.

Get the ball down low.

And, unsurprisingly, the Govs did just that – with John Fraley’s career-high 25 points and 12 rebounds fueling the team to its first OVC win of the season in an 80-65 victory over Eastern Kentucky.

A look from the Govs bench as they sink another three. Though the Colonels had a chance to tie the score in the middle of the second half, the Govs brushed passed the Colonels 85-60 for their fourth win.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball meets the Eastern Kentucky Colonels for second time in two weeks

Austin Peay Governors vs. Eastern Kentucky

Winfield Dunn Center/Dave Aaron Arena | Clarksville, TN

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – In one respect, Austin Peay doesn’t want to forget. In another vein, the Governors need to have a short memory.

Just two weeks ago, Austin Peay owned a 10-point lead with less than five minutes left in its Ohio Valley Conference opener at Eastern Kentucky, only to blow the lead, in particular, in the final 2:30 with a quartet of turnovers in a 67-65 defeat. That frustrating defeat certainly has been too fresh on the Govs mind.

APSU Sports Information: Austin Peay Basketball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsRichmond, KY – The first two months of the 2011-12 season aren’t exactly what Austin Peay’s basketball team had in mind.

Preseason favorites to win the Ohio Valley Conference, the Governors opened the season with nine consecutive losses. Injuries have played a part along the way. The Govs saw center John Fraley go down with a concussion in the opener and miss the next nine games. As he was coming back, preseason All-OVC forward Anthony Campbell went down for the season with a knee injury for a second straight year.

Streak busters set to meet as Govs head to Eastern Kentucky

APSU Men’s Basketball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsRichmond, KY – “Call him the streak” was a novelty tune about the “streaking fad” written by Ray Stevens back in 1974, a song that rose all the way to No. 1 on the charts.

For Austin Peay and Eastern Kentucky, Stevens could tweak his lyrics a bit to the tune of: “Call them the Streak busters.”

Back on January 8th, Austin Peay entered CFSB Arena and defeated Murray State, 66-64, to snap the Racers 25-game home winning streak.
