123 APSU Athletes named to OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – A program-record 123 Austin Peay State University student-athletes have been named to the 2017-18 Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, released Wednesday by the conference office.

Student-athletes must have achieved a 3.25 grade-point average, were eligible and on the team throughout the competitive season in their chosen NCAA-sponsored sport(s) and used a season of competition in that sport.

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team dropped a pair of close Ohio Valley Conference decisions to Jacksonville State, Friday at Cheryl Holt Field at Joe and Cathi Maynard Softball Stadium, falling to the defending conference champions by 2-1 and 5-3 finals.

APSU Softball loses to Middle Tennessee 8-2 in hit fest

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Carly Mattson collected three of the Govs 10 hits versus Middle Tennessee, Wednesday at Cheryl Holt Field, but if wasn’t enough as the Govs fell to the Blue Raiders, 8-2.

The Govs (24-12) trailed 5-0 after the first two-and-a-half innings of play, with MTSU (27-15) scoring twice in the top of the first inning and adding three more runs in the third.

Instant Peay Play: Historic start has APSU Softball in position to end post-season drought

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team is off to an historic start to its Ohio Valley Conference schedule and with that fuels hopes that its 11-year postseason drought could be coming to an end.

After sweeping OVC rival Tennessee Tech this past Friday at Cheryl Holt Field, the Govs saw their record improved to 20-9 overall this spring, but more importantly 5-1 in OVC play – the program’s best start since the OVC started sponsoring softball as a conference championship sport in 1994 and besting the former starts of 4-2 set by the 1997 and 2007 teams.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Softball off to best start in over a decade

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – After sweeping its four games this past weekend at the East Tennessee Buccaneer Classic, the Austin Peay State University softball team is off to its best start to a season in 11 years under the direction of its new head coach Rodney DeLong.

The Govs are currently 10-7 after its first 17 games this season, matching the 2007 Governors softball team, who finished their season 28-30 overall and were the last APSU softball team to make the Ohio Valley Conference post-season tournament field.

APSU Softball blanks Saint Peter’s 12-0, beats East Tennessee 5-2, stays perfect at Buccaneers Classic

APSU SoftballJohnson City, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team completed a perfect run at the East Tennessee State University Buccaneers Classic, Sunday at Betty Basler Field, by defeating Saint Peter’s 12-0 and East Tennessee 5-2 to finish the weekend 4-0.

The Governors (10-7) continued their hot hitting in the tournament, recording double-figure hits in both games, and finishing the weekend with 44 total hits and batting an even .400 as a team this weekend.

APSU SoftballBowling Green, KY – Austin Peay’s softball team got outstanding pitching performances in both of their games, Saturday at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Spring Fling Tournament, with the Governors defeating Dayton 3-0 and host Western Kentucky 6-1 to advance to the tournament’s championship game.

Kelly Mardones was stellar for Austin Peay (6-6) in the opener versus Dayton (4-11), holding the Flyers to just two hits and a walk, while striking out four.

APSU Softball falls to Evansville, gets Shutout win over Western Kentucky at Hilltopper Spring Fling Tournament

APSU SoftballBowling Green, KY – Morgan Rackel picked up her first NCAA Division I shutout, Friday afternoon at the WKU Softball Complex, as the Austin Peay State University’s softball team picked up a 5-0 victory over tournament host Western Kentucky, that followed an opening loss to Evansville that morning, 4-1.

Any shut is impressive, but Rackel (3-2) held a WKU team off the board, which came in averaging 7.5 runs per game and a .349 team batting average.
