U.S. SenateWashington, D.C. – The United States Armed Forces are made up of not only brave men and women in uniform, but also the families at home who support them during their service. For spouses frequently moving across state lines, keeping up with state-level professional licensing regulations can be a near-impossible task.

That’s why I introduced the Military Spouse Licensing Relief Act, which is an essential piece of bipartisan legislation to remove bureaucratic red tape and support our nation’s heroes.

Marsha Blackburn, Mike Lee, Colleagues Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Help Military Families

 

U.S. SenateWashington, D.C. – Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) introduced the Military Spouse Licensing Relief Act, bipartisan legislation that would give military spouses with valid professional licenses in one state reciprocity in the state where their spouse is currently serving on military orders.

The bill is co-sponsored by Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), and Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), John Boozman (R-Ark.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), John Thune (R-S.D.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wy.), John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Mitt Romney (R-Utah), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Roger Wicker (R-Miss), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), and Jim Risch (R-Idaho). Rep. Mike Garcia (R-Calif.) has introduced companion legislation in the House.

Second Lady Karen Pence Highlights New Measures to Help Create Employment Solutions for Military Spouses

 

The White HouseFort Campbell, KY – On Friday, February 28th, 2020, Second Lady Karen Pence, joined by the Secretary of Defense’s wife, Leah Esper, traveled to U. S. Army Fort Campbell to encourage and show appreciation for the military spouses.  

There, Mrs. Pence delivered remarks, emphasizing the significant role spouses play in the strength of the United States Army. She recognized that along with their service, comes many challenges such as finding employment.

They support their Soldiers though mission, deployment, reintegration and reset and keep the home fires burning. Throughout history, military Spouses have been the backbone that provides support for the Soldiers and holds the Family together.

American Public Can Donate Hotel Reward Points to Support Military Families

Fort Campbell Fisher HouseWashington, D.C. – Tennessee Wounded Warrior Staff Sergeant Charles Allen and his family joined David Coker, President of Fisher House Foundation, which provides free, temporary housing to the families of service members receiving medical care at military hospitals around the world, Maryland Senator Ben Cardin and Maryland Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger for the official launch of the new nation-wide “Hotels for Heroes” program, which allows the American public to donate their unused hotel reward points to allow the families of wounded warriors receiving medical treatment to stay for free in hotels around the country.

Unemployment benefits for trailing Military Spouses legislation passes Tennessee House of Representatives unanimously

 

Several Years of Hard Work Pays Off

The Seal of the State of TennesseeClarksville, TN – Tennessee State Representative Joe Pitts passed HB Bill 984 on the House Floor on Monday night with a vote of 97 to 0. Tennessee now joins 39 other states in granting unemployment compensation to spouses who leave employment because of a military move.

“This is a great day for our state and nation. I want to thank Tennessee State Senator Tim Barnes, who passed the legislation in the Senate earlier this year, and Governor Bill Haslam for their support and hard work on this bill,” Pitts said.  This bill will become effective immediately upon the Governor signature. «Read the rest of this article»
