Tennessee Vols Basketball downs Appalachian State at Thompson-Boling Arena, 79-38

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – Four double-digit scorers and a suffocating defensive effort led the 10th-ranked Tennessee Vols basketball team to a dominant, 79-38, victory over Appalachian State on Tuesday inside Thompson-Boling Arena.

The Mountaineers’ (4-2) 38 points were the fewest points a Tennessee team has allowed during the tenure of sixth-year head coach Rick Barnes.

On the boards, the Vols (3-0) were dominant for the second consecutive game, winning the rebound margin, 45-27.

Tennessee Women’s Basketball loses on the road to West Virginia, 79-73

 

UT Lady VolsMorgantown, WV – Junior Rae Burrell and sophomore Jordan Horston combined for 17 fourth-quarter points, but it wasn’t enough to give the Tennessee Women’s Basketball team the win as the Lady Vols suffered their first loss of the season, falling to West Virginia Mountaineers on the road, 79-73.
 
Burrell was Tennessee’s (2-1) high scorer with 18 points, nine of which came in the fourth quarter and included a 7-of-8 effort at the free-throw line. Horston and Keyen Green were also in double figures, notching 13 and 12, respectively.

#1 Tennessee Vols Basketball cruise to 83-66 win over West Virginia

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – In front of a season-high crowd of 22,149, No. 1 Tennessee pulled away from the West Virginia Mountaineers, 83-66, to extend its winning streak to 14 games, tying the second-longest mark in program history.

The Vols move to 5-1 all-time in the SEC/Big-12 Challenge and are winners of their last three games in the cross-conference series.

In his first start since the final game of the 2016-17 season, Lamonte Turner led the Vols (18-1) with a season-high 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Admiral Schofield recorded his third double-double of the season, finishing with a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with 14 points.

The game will tip at 3:00pm CT and will be televised on ESPN and can also be viewed online through WatchESPN. Fans can listen live on their local Vol Network affiliate to hear Bob Kesling and Bert Bertelkamp describing the action.

In its sixth year, Tennessee (17-1) holds a 3-1 record when competing in the cross-conference showcase, including a 68-45 win at Iowa State last season.

UT Football loses to #17 West Virginia

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsCharlotte, NC – Tennessee Vols Football fell to No. 17 West Virginia, 40-14, to open the 2018 season Saturday in the Belk College Kickoff at Bank of America Stadium.
 
The Volunteers now turn their focus to next Saturday’s home-opener against ETSU. Kickoff for that contest—which marks first-year UT head coach Jeremy Pruitt‘s Neyland Stadium debut—is set for 3:00pm CT (SEC Network).
 
All-American West Virginia quarterback Will Grier led a high-powered Mountaineers offense that came to life in the second half—scoring 27 points over the final 30 minutes. Grier finished the game having completed 25 of 34 passes for 429 yards and five touchdowns.

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – Tennessee Vols Football will open its 2018 campaign on Saturday, September 1st, 2018 against No. 17/20 West Virginia in the Belk College Kickoff Game at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC.

Kickoff for Saturday’s season opener is slated for 2:30pm CT on CBS with Brad Nessler (play-by-play) and Gary Danielson (analyst) calling the action in the booth and Jamie Erdahl reporting from the sidelines. Vol Network radio affiliates will have a live audio broadcast with Bob Kesling, Tim Priest and Brent Hubbs. Sirius and XM satellite radio will also carry the game on Channel 201.

The first-year head coach has been on the jobs for nine months, and his closest thing to coaching game action was the Vols’ annual DISH Orange & White Game in the spring.
