Nashville, TN – Nashville Sounds infielder Nick Martini and right-handed pitchers James Naile and Bobby Wahl have been named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team as announced by the league. All three were selected as reserves by the PCL office.
The 2018 Triple-A All-Star Game is scheduled for Wednesday, July 11th at 8:00pm CST at Huntington Park in Columbus, Ohio. The game will be carried live on ALT 97.5 FM with Sounds broadcaster Jeff Hem on the call and televised on MLB Network.
Right-Hander Becomes Third Sounds Pitcher to Earn Weekly Recognition in 2017
Nashville, TN – The Pacific Coast League announced today that Nashville Sounds’ pitcher Ben Bracewell has been named PCL Pitcher of the Week for his performance from August 21st-27th, 2017.
The 26-year-old hurled two shutout performances this week en route to a pair of wins. He allowed just seven hits and two walks while racking up ten strikeouts in his 13 scoreless innings. Bracewell’s scoreless innings streak matched a career-high, which he set in 2016 with Double-A Midland.
Nashville, TN – The Pacific Coast League announced today that Nashville Sounds’ pitcher Chris Smith has been named PCL Pitcher of the Week for his performance from June 5th-11th.
Smith, 36, pitched six no-hit innings in the Sounds four-pitcher no-hitter against the Omaha Storm Chasers on June 7th. The right-hander issued two walks and struck out four in Nashville’s 4-0 win.
The no-hitter was the seventh in the 40-year history of Nashville Sounds Baseball, and first since Manny Parra tossed a perfect game against Round Rock Express on June 25th, 2007.
Nashville, TN – The Reno Aces used a strong start by Shelby Miller to score a 3-2 win over the Nashville Sounds in front of 5,058 fans Monday night at First Tennessee Park.
The two teams split the four-game series after the Sounds (70-53) won the first two games and the Aces (65-58) returned the favor in the final two.
Miller scattered 10 hits and limited the Sounds to two runs in 7 1/3 innings. He didn’t walk anybody and racked up nine strikeouts in his fourth win with Reno.
Nashville, TN – Nashville Sounds pitcher Jharel Cotton has been named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for his performance from August 8th-14th, the league announced this afternoon.
The right-hander made one start for the Sounds during the week and turned in a masterful performance. In an August 9th outing in Round Rock, Texas, Cotton narrowly missed a perfect game and settled for a one-hit, complete game shutout.
Left-Hander Tossed First Career Complete Game
Nashville, TN – Nashville Sounds pitcher Dillon Overton has been named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for his performance from April 18th-24th, the league announced today.
The left-hander started one game during the week and turned in his first career complete game in Nashville’s 8-1 win over Colorado Springs on April 20th.
Pitching in game two of a doubleheader this past Wednesday, Overton went all seven innings and allowed one run on five hits. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out five.
Record-Setting Crowd On Hand For CBS Sports Network Game Of The Week
Nashville, TN – The Sounds saw Salt Lake strike for a pair of late runs and dropped Thursday night’s contest in front of a record-setting 10,610 fans at First Tennessee Park, 4-2.
Nashville ended the night 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position and failed to capitalize on three Salt Lake errors. The bullpen’s streak of 19.2 innings without allowing a run came to an end, as the Bees added two runs late in the game to steal the third game of the series.
Nashville Sounds Left-Hander Threw 14.0 Scoreless Innings, Earned Two Wins
Nashville, TN – Nashville Sounds pitcher Barry Zito has been named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for the May 25th – 31st period.
The 37-year old was a perfect 2-0 in a pair of starts during the week, shutting out both the Sacramento River Cats and Las Vegas 51s through 14.0 innings of work. He was one of four hurlers to win two games over the week and the only pitcher with two starts to not allow a run. In addition, opponents batted .111 (5-for-45) off him, the third-best mark in the league.
Sounds Right-hander Hurled 12 Scoreless Innings To Lower Yearly ERA To 1.95
Nashville, TN – Nashville Sounds starting pitcher Hiram Burgos has been named the Pacific Coast League’s Pitcher of the Week for the August 27th – September 3rd period.
The 25-year-old hurler tossed 12.0 scoreless innings in a pair of quality starts during the week, scattering nine hits while striking out 10 batters. He held league batters to a .196 average (9-for-46) over the two outings.
Nashville Sounds Right-hander Allowed One Unearned Run Over Two Winning Starts
Nashville, TN – Nashville Sounds starting pitcher Wily Peralta has been named the Pacific Coast League’s Pitcher of the Week for the July 2nd-8th period.
The 23-year old picked up victories against the division-rival Iowa Cubs and Memphis Redbirds in his last two starts, allowing only one unearned run while striking out 12 batters in 12.2 innings.
In his first start of the week, Peralta matched a Sounds and personal season high with seven scoreless innings, striking out six in his 87-pitch effort. The 23-year-old allowed only one Cubs baserunner to reach second base and did not issue a free pass for the first time all season.
