Instant Peay Play: Shelby Olszewski gets second chance to finish Austin Peay Basketball career

 

Instant Peay PlayClarksville, TN – Almost three years ago Austin Peay State University Lady Govs basketball player Shelby Olszewski thought her career on the hardwood was over, but several factors leading into this season have led her back to basketball and a second chance to end what she began on her own terms.

“I never really expected that I would come back (and play basketball),” Olszewski said. “I never thought I would do it, but my sister (Nicole) said to me when I told her that I was going to come back and play again said ‘at least you’ll get to finish what you started’”.

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Senior Shelby Olszewski, of the Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

In two must-win games for Austin Peay last week, Olszewski provided the deciding goal in victories against Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville, keeping the Lady Govs in the hunt for an OVC Tournament berth.

In the Friday night contest against Eastern Illinois, Olszewski scored the opening goal on a rebound from a Nicole Wojcik shot and later assisted on Sophia Fabbro’s 89th-minute goal in the Lady Govs 3-0 win against the Panthers.

Shelby Olszewski named APSU Athlete of the Week

 

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Junior defender Shelby Olszewski, of Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Olszewski scored in both Lady Gov matches at the 2013 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, earning all-tournament honors after leading the sixth-seeded Lady Govs to the semifinals. She finished the season with six goals, the most by a predominantly defense-oriented player in Austin Peay history.

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUBrentwood, TN – In her first two matches with Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team, Shelby Olszewski has made quite an impression.

The junior defender from Pickerington, Ohio, earned Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors after scoring a goal and assisting on another during last weekend’s season-opening road trip.

Lady Govs add highly-regarded forward McKenney

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball program continues the building process for the 2011-12 campaign, head coach Carrie Daniels announced, Tuesday, the addition of Somalia McKenney, of Charlotte, NC, who has signed a national letter of intent.

McKenney, a 6-0 forward, helped lead Mallard Creek High School to the North Carolina Class 4A Final Four where they lost to the eventual state champion in the semifinal round.  She was named to the I-Meck All-Conference team after averaging 14 points and 11 rebounds in a senior season shortened due to rehabilitation from a knee injury.
