Fort Campbell, KY – “Snakes are unfairly persecuted in ways that are not tolerated for other animals, either domestic or wildlife.” said Dr. Chris Gienger, a herpetology professor at Austin Peay State University.
Spring is here and with it comes warmer weather. Families begin going out on hikes and enjoying the outdoors. Those people enjoying the outdoors should be mindful of the wildlife on and around Fort Campbell as they’re exploring. They should make sure to know what to look for while on the trail.
Herpetology is the branch of zoology which deals with the study of reptiles and amphibians such as snakes, turtles, and iguanas.
A Ribbon snake, a harmless, non-venomous, docile snake found near marshy areas. These snakes are found on Fort Campbell. (Spc. Patrick Kirby 40th Public Affairs Detachment.)

LBL to hold Cool Critters Day with Birds, Bugs, Snakes, and more
Land Between the Lakes, KY/TN – Get an up-close look at live tropical birds, check out reptiles from around the world, touch a tarantula, and visit with domestic petting zoo animals during Cool Critters Day at Woodlands Nature Station. The event lasts from 10:00am-4:00pm, Saturday, July 16th, 2016.
“If your children like animals, they’ll love Cool Critters Day,” says Nature Station naturalist, Aviva Yasgur. “This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about a variety of interesting, exotic critters and see them up-close.”

Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for August 6th through August 9th, 2015
Clarksville, TN – Dunbar Cave State Natural Area has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.
Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs during the year. There are programs for children and adults.
Some of the upcoming events include: Port Royal Trail of Tears, Wildflower Walk, Cave Hike, Evening Hike and Herpetological Morning Hike.

Friends of Dunbar Cave’s Spring Fling event to be held May 10th, 2014
Clarksville, TN – The Friends of Dunbar Cave have announced the schedule for this year’s Spring Fling event to be held (rain or shine) on May 10th, 2014. All activities begin at the Visitor’s Center and are free of charge. Snacks will be provided for a modest donation. Children must supervised by an adult.

LBL Cool & Crawly Critters Day, July 13th
Golden Pond, KY – Hey parents! Bring your kids to Land Between the Lakes Cool & Crawly Critters Day where they can get an up-close look at bugs, snakes, turtles, fish, and more!
Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area offers the event at Woodlands Nature Station on Saturday, July 13th, 2013, from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Event admission fee is $5.00 ages 13 and up, $4.00 ages 5-12, age 4 and under are FREE. All programs are included with admission fee. Lunch will be available for purchase.

The Kentucky Reptile Expo is coming to Bowling Green, Kentucky
Bowling Green, KY – If you love reptiles and amphibians, you will not want to miss the Kentucky Reptile Expo on August 6th, 10:00am to 4:00pm at the Carroll Knicely Conference Center on the Western Kentucky University campus in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Jarrod Greer purchased Kentucky Reptile Expo about five years ago. At that time, it had been held in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Greer moved it to Shepherdsville about a year later. Last year, Greer decided to turn it into a traveling reptile expo for 2011 and has done successful shows in Hopkinsville, Bowling Green, Shepherdsville, Corbin and other cities in Kentucky.
