Clarksville Police urge Caution around Schools

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department is urging drivers to be especially cautious in school zones and when encountering school buses on streets and roads throughout the community.

The advice comes in the wake of recent incidents in which a student on a bicycle was struck by a motorist in a school zone and another in which parents confronted a motorist who sped past a stopped school bus.

Law enforcement will be out in full force to ensure motorists are following the rules of the road in school zones and along the bus route paths.

Clarksville Police Department releases School Bus and School Zone Safety Tips

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department has been receiving numerous complaints about school bus and school zone violations.  We wanted to take this opportunity to remind the public about the rules of the road in school zones and actions to take when schools buses are in operation.

CPD’s Traffic Unit Supervisor Sgt Johnny Ransdell— “Safety in school zones and adhering to traffic laws when school buses are operating is an absolutely necessity.  We will be issuing citations for people violating school bus laws and speeding in school zones”.

Clarksville-Montgomery County School Bus Catches Fire, 20 Students on Board Safe

 

Clarksville Montgomery County School System (CMCSS)Montgomery County, TN – Clarksville-Montgomery County School Bus 01-104 caught fire on Southside Road early Thursday morning, November 2nd, 2017, as it was stopping to pick up students who attend Montgomery Central Middle School and Montgomery Central High School.

No students were injured during the incident.

Tennessee State Representative - District 68Nashville, TN – The first session of the 110th Tennessee General Assembly adjourned on May 10th, 2017, after passing major legislation that will benefit Tennesseans for generations to come. This is Part 6 of a 12 Part report.

This includes a measure making Tennessee the first state in the nation to offer all adults without a degree tuition-free access to community college; a new law rebuilding a safe and reliable transportation network, while reallocating revenues to maximize taxpayers’ return on that investment; and a bill which provides a responsible path to improve access to broadband through investment, deregulation, and education. 

Action in the General Assembly also included passage of a balanced budget which takes on no new debt, as well as legislation protecting the elderly, enhancing the state’s robust job growth, cracking down on crime, and boosting efforts as the fastest improving state in the nation in K-12 student achievement.  Following is a report on key legislation passed this year.

Tennessee Highway Patrol asks everyone to practice Back To School Safety

 

The Tennessee Highway PatrolNashville, TN – Tennessee Highway Patrol Colonel Tracy Trott is reminding motorists to exercise an abundance of caution in neighborhoods and around school zones during the upcoming 2016-2017 school year. State Troopers will target speeders, distracted drivers and those who disregard stopped school buses that are loading and unloading children.

State Troopers issued 5,247 citations in school zones during the 2012-2013 school year. That’s up from 3,856 citations issued in 2011-12. Last year’s citations included 759 speeding violations and two citations for passing a stopped school bus.

Clarksville Police remind Citizens of School Bus Stop Law

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System is reminding everyone of the School Bus Stop Law. Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools start with a half day on Monday, August 8th, 2016 and then begin full day schedule on Wednesday, August 10th.

Any driver meeting a school bus or church bus on which the red stop warning signal lights are flashing should reduce his speed and bring the vehicle to a complete stop while the bus stop signal arm is extended. The vehicle must remain stopped until the stop arm is pulled back and the bus resumes motion.

Tennessee Highway Patrol warns Motorist that School is Starting Back

 

Tennessee Highway Patrol - THPNashville, TN – As Tennessee schools are starting back to school, the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) wanted to make drivers aware of the rules and penalties for improperly passing a school bus. Tennessee Law 55-8-151 addresses the overtaking and passing school busses while unloading/loading passengers and the penalties.

The Tennessee law states: The driver of a vehicle upon a highway, upon meeting or overtaking from either direction any school bus that has stopped on the highway for the purpose of receiving or discharging any school children, shall stop the vehicle before reaching the school bus, and the driver shall not proceed until the school bus resumes motion or is signaled by the school bus driver to proceed or the visual signals are no longer actuated.
