Austin Peay State University Arts and Letters students collaborate on new Shakespeare podcast

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – At first, it sounds like the set-up to a joke—a voice actor, a Restoration-era drama scholar and a sound engineer walk into a bar (or coffee shop, in this case).

But instead of hijinks, these three Austin Peay State University professors discuss a bold collaborative project to connect students from different disciplines and provide an entertaining resource for the community.

Austin Peay State University Choral Concert to recreate “The Wizard of Oz” October 21st

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – In L. Frank Baum’s hometown of Chittenango, New York, the brick sidewalks are painted yellow and the shops have names like “Auntie Em’s Place” and the “Emerald City Grill.”

This little village doesn’t really resemble the magical Oz, but it is part of the ongoing reinterpretation of Baum’s famous children’s story, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”

That famous work has been re-imagined numerous times over the years, with the famous 1939 musical, “The Wizard of Oz,” the 1978 Michael Jackson fantasy, “The Wiz,” and Gregory Maguire’s bestselling book, later made into a hit Broadway musical, “Wicked.”

"The Wizard of Oz" to be performed by APSU Choral October 21st.

Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Message

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – On Monday we will celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  I believe the best way to honor his legacy is to continue to apply the wisdom he offered and meet the challenges he put before us.

“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well,” Dr. King once said.  «Read the rest of this article»

New study abroad courses to take APSU students to London for a week

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Dr. Daniel Shea, Austin Peay State University associate professor of languages and literature, leaned back in his chair and said, “We’ve got lots of programs for people who can spend considerable amounts of time abroad. If you want to study abroad for a year or a semester or a month, we’ve got you covered.”

Outside his office window in Harned Hall, dozens of nontraditional students walked across campus. They’re the type of students – parents, full-time employees and military veterans – who don’t necessarily have the time or money to spend weeks studying in a foreign country. «Read the rest of this article»
