Instant Peay Play: Former APSU Baseball Gov Tyler Rogers makes history in call up to the big leagues

Clarksville, TN – When Tyler Rogers got the call he had been waiting for from the San Francisco Giants letting him know that he was finally going to get his shot to pitch in the major leagues, a little over a week ago after almost seven seasons tolling around in the minor leagues, the former Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball player also became a part of Major League history.
In making it to the Giants major league roster, Tyler joins his twin brother Taylor (pitcher for the Minnesota Twins) as only the 10th pair of twin brothers in history to both play in the Major Leagues and only the eighth overall to do so in the same year.

Instant Peay Play: Eleven former APSU Govs continue to shine in pro baseball leagues as MLB All-Star week approaches
Clarksville, TN – With one week to go before Major League Baseball takes a pause for its annual mid-season All-Start Game, 11 former Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball players are still getting it done on pro baseball fields around America and in international leagues.
Currently, two former Govs pitchers Shawn Kelley (Texas Rangers) and Ryne Harper (Minnesota Twins) are on MLB rosters, with Kelley leading the team with 11 saves — as the team’s closer – while also having three wins in five decisions and a 2.79 ERA, while Harper has made the most of his first action in the majors in posting a 3-1 record with a save and a 2.97 ERA as a set-up man out of the bullpen.

Former APSU Gov, Clarksville native Ryne Harper making the most of MLB opportunity
Clarksville, TN – After nine years and just over 300 games bouncing around in the minor leagues, former Austin Peay State University (APSU) Governors baseball player, and Clarksville native, Ryne Harper is off to a great start in this first action in the major leagues.
In a team-leading 30 appearances so far this season with the Minnesota Twins, Harper is 2-0, with a save, five holds, a 1.93 ERA, and 27 strikeouts to just six walks in 28 innings of work.

Instant Peay Play: Several APSU Players could hear named called during MLB Draft
Clarksville, TN – The dream of having a chance to play in the major leagues could become reality this week for several Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball players, with the 2019 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft running June 3rd through June 5th in Secaucus, NJ.
The APSU Govs have a long history in the draft — dating back to the Govs first draft selection in the 1972 draft, Tim Burns, who went in the second round — and this year’s 40-round draft should be no different.

Instant Peay Play: Morgan Rackel signing pro contract adds to APSU Athletic Department Legacy
Clarksville, TN – With former Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball player Morgan Rackel signing a professional contract this week to play softball with the Canadian Wild of Southern Illinois, of the National Pro Fastpitch League, it adds yet another chapter to the athletic department’s history and legacy.
Over the last 60-or-so-years, over 100 former Governors from at least nine different sports have gone from playing for the red and white in Clarksville to the professional ranks in their respective sports, with Rackel joining that select group this week as the first former Govs softball player to make a professional roster.

APSU Baseball has Four Alumni active in the Minor Leagues

Clarksville, TN – Four Austin Peay State University baseball alumni began the 2018 baseball season on minor league active rosters throughout the country.
Ryne Harper (2008-11), who was picked up by the Minnesota Twins organization during the offseason, began the year at the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts. He already has two saves in his first two appearances with the club, striking out all four batters he has faced.
