APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts Annual Ovation Awards Ceremony set for March 2nd

 

APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative ArtsClarksville, TN – In 2010, Dr. Joseph B. Trahern Jr. donated a couple of crude, limestone statues to Austin Peay State University.

The pieces, which had belonged to his late mother, were sculpted by the prominent folk artist William Edmondson, the first African-American artist to have a solo show of his work at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

Those donated works, worth tens of thousands of dollars, helped jump-start the University’s burgeoning folk art collection, and they have made the entire community a destination for art enthusiasts.

APSU Phi Kappa Phi member receives Love of Learning Award

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University alumna received a Love of Learning Award from the national headquarters of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

Simone Parker, who received her bachelor’s degree in music from APSU and then graduated in May 2012 with a Master of Music in piano performance, was one of 140 PKP members to receive the competitive Love of Learning awards, which help fund post-baccalaureate studies and/or career development for active PKP members. «Read the rest of this article»

CSA Hosts End-of-Semester Performances and Exhibits

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – A full semester of public art and music lessons is coming to a close at Austin Peay State University with a series of exhibits and concerts hosted by The Community School of the Arts at APSU.

For the last two decades, area adults and children have honed their creative talents and discovered new passions through the CSA. The program serves approximately 350 students of all ages and skill levels through programs in music, dance and the visual arts.
