Fran Riordan to Manage Club After Leading Double-A Midland to Texas League Title

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Fran Riordan has been named the new manager of the Nashville Sounds as announced by the Oakland Athletics today. Riordan is the 28th manager in franchise history.

Riordan, 42, takes over the manager role vacated by Ryan Christenson who was hired as the bench coach for Oakland.

Riordan will manage at the Triple-A level for the first time after leading the Double-A Midland RockHounds to a Texas League title in 2017. It was the fourth consecutive championship for Oakland’s Double-A affiliate.

Nashville Sounds Brad LaRosa named PCL Trainer of the Year

 

Pacific Coast League - PCLRound Rock, TX – The Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) has selected Nashville Sounds’ Brad LaRosa the 2016 PCL Trainer of the Year.

The award is given annually to one member of each of the 16 Leagues in Minor League Baseball, as well as the Dominican Summer League, in a selection by their peers. As the PCL winner, LaRosa is now eligible for the Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year award, which is voted upon by full membership of the PBATS and announced at the 2016 Major League Baseball Winter Meetings in Washington, D.C.

Instant Peay Play: July opens with coaching carrousel still turning for APSU Govs, Lady Govs

 

Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s athletic department looked like it was close to filling its’ final open positions, as the calendar neared July, but the last days of June into the first days of July saw two coaches leave the department.

The first was Lady Govs head softball coach Stephanie Paris, who informed interim athletics director Cheryl Holt on June 28th that she was stepping down from her position that she had held for three seasons to go into private industry.

APSU announces final four candidates for Athletics Director position

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University has narrowed its search for a new athletics director down to four strong candidates, and the University will begin interviewing the candidates in early July. APSU began looking for a new AD in April when Derek van der Merwe was promoted from that position to vice president of Advancement, Communications and Strategic Initiatives.

After an extensive national search, the University is bringing the top candidates to campus next month for interviews. Interested campus and community members, along with the media, are invited to attend an open session with each candidate, from 4:45pm to 5:15pm, in the Club Level of Governors Stadium.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball falls at home to SIU Edwardsville Cougars 66-53

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville claimed its first Ohio Valley Conference road win, Thursday night, by handing Austin Peay State University a 66-53 decision in Dave Aaron Arena.

It was the Govs second straight loss and ninth in their last 10 games. The decision dropped APSU to 5-14 overall and just 1-4 in the OVC.

Lady Govs golf finishes second at SIUE Intercollegiate

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsEdwardsville, IL – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team shaved 13 strokes off its first-round score to finish second, Tuesday, in the SIUE Intercollegiate, presented by Double Tree.

Led by junior Lauren Bond, the Lady Govs fired a final-round 325 to end at 663 on the Sunset Hills Country Club course. APSU actually tied with host Southern Illinois University Edwardsville for second but earned the second position because of a higher fifth-position score. Southern Illinois Carbondale won the event with a 632.

Belmont University to join the Ohio Valley Conference

Ohio Valley ConferenceBrentwood, TN – The Ohio Valley Conference announced on Friday that Belmont University has been admitted to the Conference and will become the league’s 12th member. The move was approved by the OVC Board of Presidents.

Belmont will officially become a member of the OVC on July 1st, 2012 and its athletic teams will begin competing in the Conference in the 2012-13 season.
