APSU Governors Basketball’s Chris Horton earns OVC Freshman honor for third straight week

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University center Chris Horton, who scored 24 points in two games while shooting 71 percent from the floor, has been named Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week for a third straight time.

The 6-8 Decatur, GA, native, scored 15 points against Berea last Wednesday, going 6-of-9 from the floor.

Edmondson’s 29 not enough as turnovers undo Governors at Fairfield

Austin Peay State University GovernorsBridgeport, CT – Fairfield took advantage of 25 Austin Peay State University turnovers, Saturday afternoon, as it pulled away for a 76-69 victory in Sears BracketBuster action played at Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard.

Fairfield, which already has clinched the 2010-11 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship, turned the uncharacteristic Govs miscues into 35 points, more than enough to pull out its 22nd victory against five defeats. Austin Peay, meanwhile, saw its modest two-game winning streak snapped at two games as it fell to 17-12 overall before heading back into Ohio Valley Conference play, 7:30pm, Thursday, at home against Eastern Illinois.

Governors head to JSU for final OVC road contest

Austin Peay State University GovernorsJacksonville, AL – Austin Peay will attempt to build some late-season momentum as it travels to Jacksonville State, 7:00pm, Tuesday, for its final Ohio Valley Conference road game.

The Governors will be facing a Jacksonville State team that currently is on the outside looking in as far as qualifying for the OVC tournament. The 3-13 Gamecocks sit in 10th place in the OVC standings-only the top eight teams advance to tourney play in Nashville, beginning March 2nd.

Basketball Govs headed to Fairfield for BracketBusters

 

Game Tapped for ESPNU Broadcast

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team will face Fairfield in a noon, Saturday, February 19th, ESPNU BracketBusters contest, in Bridgeport, CT, which will be televised on ESPNU. The Govs are one of 11 nationally televised games, selected from a pool of 114 teams, the largest pool in the event’s history.

It will be the eighth time – the most of any Ohio Valley Conference school – Austin Peay (14-9) has played in the BracketBusters series as well as the third time APSU has been selected as one of the televised games.
