State of Tennessee releases County Unemployment Rates for January 2014

Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce DevelopmentNashville, TN – Tennessee County unemployment rates for January 2014 were released Thursday, March 13th, show the rate decreased in 34 counties, increased in 49 counties, and remained the same in 12.

Clarksville’s unemployment rate was 7.2 percent, down 0.4 percent from December’s 7.6. Clarksville is down 1.5 percent from January 2013’s 8.7 percent unemployment.

LBL to hold 42nd Annual Between the Rivers Homecoming Sunday, August 11th

 

Land Between the Lakes - LBLGolden Pond, KY – Former residents of the area now known as Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area will gather this summer on Sunday, August 11th, at Fenton for their annual Homecoming.

The 42nd Annual Between the Rivers Homecoming celebrates former residents of the Trigg County, KY, portion of LBL. Fenton is located east of the Eggner’s Ferry Bridge on US68/KY80; the reunion will take place at the pavilion.

Stewart County High School Students recognized at FBLA National Leadership Conference in San Antonio Texas

 

Future Business Leaders of AmericaStewart County, TN – More than eight thousand of America’s best and brightest youth traveled to the historic city of San Antonio, TX to make some history of their own as they showcased their talents as future business leaders and vied for the opportunity to win over $95,000 in cash awards.

Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, the largest and oldest student business organization, held its National Leadership Conference in San Antonio on June 29th-July 2nd.

Cross Creeks reopens

 

Cross Creeks National Wildlife RefugeStewart County, TN – After being closed since the flood, the Cross Creeks National Wildlife Refuge was able to re-open Friday, May 20th at 11:00am. However, some roads and areas are still off limits due to flooding, washing out,  and debris.

The entrances to Cross Creeks are now clear and the refuge is back open for public use.

TBI makes arrest in Stewart County Homicide

 

Tennessee Bureau of InvestigationNashville, TN – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has arrested and charged a Clarksville, TN man with the shooting of two victims yesterday afternoon in Stewart County, TN.

James Earl Farley Jr., 26, of Clarksville, TN has been charged with one count of criminal homicide and one count of attempt to commit criminal homicide.

Yesterday afternoon, Farley shot and killed 47-year-old Robert Ray Brooks and shot 25-year-old Billy Nichols at Grice Creek boat dock on Highway 149 in Stewart County.

Life at Fort Donelson for African American soldiers and their families will come alive Saturday April 4 in a historic retelling of this part of history. In a one day staging, offered in two presentations, actors will present a dramatic  presentation of the history and lives of Tennessee’s Civil War participants.
