Austin Peay ROTC cadets excel at military summer programs

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, Tn –-Twelve Austin Peay ROTC students – including the University’s first-ever cadet to go to the Jungle Warfare School in Hawaii – attended multiple training schools during the summer.

Austin Peay State University also sent its first cadet since 2006 to Army Mountain Warfare School in Vermont and the third and fourth cadets ever to U.S. Military Academy Cadet Summer Training at West Point, New York.

Clarksville Civil War RoundtableClarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, December 21st, 2016 at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Tennova Healthcare. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall.

The meeting begins at 7:00 pm and is always open to the public. Members please bring a friend or two – new recruits are always welcomed.

Austin Peay State University golfer Marco Iten named to Division I PING All-Southeast Region

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUNorman, OK –  Marco Iten, who captured medalist honors in four spring tournaments including the NCAA Auburn Regional, has been named to the Division I PING All-Southeast Region team, announced Thursday by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Iten currently is in Hutchinson, Kansas, preparing for the NCAA Golf Championship, which commences Friday at the Prairie Dunes Country Club.

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionRakkasanFort Campbell, KY – Growing up in Fontana California, Andre Shinda loved to play sports. He played football through high school and wanted what every other high school football player did, to go to the pros.

By his junior year in high school, Shinda was already being looked at by college universities. He was fortunate to make it out of the area he grew up in. Many of his friends and teammates were not. Some had run-ins with the law, others problems with illegal substances.

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – Last season’s success provided the opportunity for Austin Peay State University men’s golf coach Kirk Kayden to strengthen his team’s schedule in 2013-14 and he did so as evidenced by the presence of four tournaments hosted by teams that reached the NCAA regionals last season.

Military-Veteran Graduate Recognition Ceremony May 8th for APSU spring grads

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Active duty and military veteran students who will graduate from Austin Peay State University this week will receive APSU’s military coin.

The military and veteran graduate recognition and coin presentation ceremony, with the theme “All Hail to Those Who Serve,” is scheduled for 5:00pm, Wednesday, May 8th in the Mabry Concert Hall, located inside the Music/Mass Communication Building. The event is open to the public.

101st Airborne Division Soldiers to Test Female-specific Body Armor

 

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionWashington, DC (Army News Service) – Currently both male and female Soldiers wear body armor that has been designed for men. But the Army plans to field to women next summer a new type of body armor, designed for them, that will be shorter in the torso with more customized adjustments specific to the female form.

Until that happens, the 14 percent of the Army who are women will continue to wear one of the 11 sizes of the Improved Outer Tactical Vest, or IOTV, that are worn by their male counterparts.
