Hanley named CIAF APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Whitney Hanley, a junior on the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Whitney HanleyHanley led the Lady Govs to a pair of Ohio Valley Conference wins during the week; a 69-61 win over second-place UT Martin and a 69-59 win against rival Murray State. She averaged 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists while also blocking five shots in two games.

The 5-8 guard filled up the box score in both wins. Against UT Martin, she had an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double, along with five assists, three blocks and two steals. Against Murray State, Hanley had 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Freshman Will Triggs, of the Austin Peay men’s basketball team was named the OVC’s Freshman of the Week. In the Governors win against UT Martin, he came off the bench to score 12 points, going 6-of-7 from the floor, while grabbing seven rebounds-tying him for the team lead in that category. Against Murray State, Triggs had 15 points to go along with seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
  • Freshman April Holman, of the women’s track and field team set a personal-best in the high jump at the Niswonger Invitational. Her 5-5 jump not only was Austin Peay’s best, but also is the second-best OVC jump this season.
