Lady Govs to host Colonels in Conference Home Opener

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team opens the home portion of its Ohio Valley Conference schedule this weekend, hosting Eastern Kentucky for a three-game series at Lady Govs Field.

The series starts with a 1:00pm, Saturday doubleheader and concludes with a 1:00pm, Sunday single game.

Austin Peay (4-16, 0-3 OVC) comes into the series having defeated Belmont, 6-1, Wednesday, to end a four-game losing streak, while Eastern Kentucky (13-9, 0-3 OVC) hasn’t played since dropping all three of its OVC home games to Jacksonville State last weekend.

Offensively, Austin Peay is led by freshman Lauren de Castro, who has been the team’s hottest hitter the past four games with a .545 batting average in that span, while entering the weekend batting .309 overall on the season, with a team-high four doubles to go with two home runs and 10 RBI.

Red-shirt sophomore Jessica Ryan and junior Amy Mills also have been hot, with the latter hitting .455 in the last four games and the former .438.

Shelby Norton, a red-shirt sophomore, has hit at a .357 clip in the last four games, including smacking a double and two home runs.

In the circle, sophomore right-hander Morgan Brewer picked up her season’s second win, a complete-game decision against Belmont, which was also her season’s fourth complete game.
