4th Brigade Combat Team Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

The CurraheesFort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – A 101st Airborne Division Soldier died July 14th, of wounds suffered from small arms fire while on dismounted patrol July 13th in Paktika province, Afghanistan.

Sergeant Jeremy R. Summers, 27, of Mount Olivet, KY, was a fire support specialist assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). He joined the Army in March 2005 and arrived at Fort Campbell in August 2009.

SummersHis awards and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Achievement Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Korea Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon;  Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal; and Combat Action Badge.

Summers is survived by his mother, Laura Jo Summers; and father, Kenneth M. Summers; both of Mount Olivet, KY.

A memorial service will be held for Summers in Afghanistan.  Fort Campbell holds a monthly Eagle Remembrance Ceremony to honor fallen Screaming Eagles.
