Statement from 1st Battalion, 160th SOAR (A) Commander, Lt. Col Michael Hertzendorf

160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment

160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment - Soar - Night StalkersFort Campbell, KY – “This week the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) lost two true American heroes in a tragic training accident near Fort Benning, GA.

Every day the uniquely skilled and highly trained Night Stalker aviators execute challenging and dangerous training to prepare them for real-world missions. It is with a very heavy heart that we recognize the loss of two of our own.

Capt. John “David” Hortman and Chief Warrant Officer 3 Steven Redd were exceptionally qualified pilots. We will feel their loss personally and professionally for years to come. Our immediate and lasting concern is for the Families and friends of these extraordinary men who served their country with distinction, made the ultimate sacrifice and who lived by our motto: ‘Night Stalkers Don’t Quit,'”

Lt. Col. Michael Hertzendorf, commander, 1st Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne).
