Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will step out of Ohio Valley Conference play, 2:00pm, Wednesday in Huntsville, AL, as it renews its rivalry with Alabama A&M.

The two teams have played 14 games against each other, with the Lady Govs holding a commanding 13-1 advantage in the series, but the two schools haven’t faced each other since February 25th, 2010.

Austin Peay (12-25) comes into the matchup looking to end its season-worst eight-game losing streak, including three one-run loses over that stretch, while Alabama A&M (11-18) is playing its season’s best softball, having won its last four games.

Lauren de CastroAustin Peay is led offensively by sophomore Lauren de Castro, who is hitting at a .380 clip for the season, with team bests in runs scored (23), RBI (22), slugging percentage (.587), on-base percentage (.436), doubles (8) and walks (12), while tied with redshirt junior Jessica Ryan for the team’s home run lead (5).

Freshman Paige Neely, who is coming off her second straight week of .400-plus hitting, has raised her season’s batting average to .355, with 16 RBI and 11 runs scored.

Sarah RasmussenAlso coming into the doubleheader after a solid week is freshman Sarah Rasmussen, who hit .308 in five games last week that included her career’s first home run.

In the circle, junior Morgan Brewer leads the Lady Govs pitching staff with a 6-11 win-loss mark this season and owns a 3.22 ERA to go with 85 strikeouts in 119.2 innings of work.

Leading the team in ERA (2.97) is de Castro, who sports a 4-5 win-loss record with 47 strikeouts in 68.1 inning of work.

Ashley BoldaSenior Ashley Bolda and sophomore Taylor Mills also have Lady Govs’ pitching wins this season.

The Red Bulldogs are led offensively by Jasmine Riley, who comes into the doubleheader with a .367 batting average and a team-best 10 doubles.

Anisa Britt has been the A&M pitching staff workhorse with 113 innings pitched that has translated into an 8-7 overall record, with a 4.38 ERA and 87 strikeouts.
