APSU Lady Govs Tennis loses at home to Belmont Bruins

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team dropped a 4-2 heartbreaker to Belmont, Friday, at the Austin Peay Indoor Tennis Center.

As a result of inclement weather and time constraints moving the match indoors, singles matches were played first and doubles matches were bypassed because Belmont clinched the match victory in singles action.

With the loss, the Lady Govs fall to 2-16 overall, with a 0-8 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference. Belmont improves to 4-12 overall, with a 1-4 OVC record.

In singles action, the Lady Govs were led by senior Ornella Di Salvo and freshman Brittney Covington.  Di Salvo cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Lindsey Whitehead at No. 1 while Covington earned a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 win over Abbie Mather at the No. 4 slot.

In other singles matches, sophomore Hannah Tatlock dropped a 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 decision to Laura Van Eeckhoudt at the No. 2 position while sophomore Isabela Jovanovic lost a 6-3, 7-5 match to Suzanna Stapler at No. 5.

The Lady Govs return to action with a 9:00am, Saturday, contest against OVC rival Tennessee State in Nashville, TN.
