Carbondale, IL – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team travels to Southern Illinois, Friday, to continue nonconference action. In addition, Saturday’s home match against Wright State has been cancelled.
The cancellation is Austin Peay’s third of the year due to winter weather conditions. The Governors are seeking a turning point after a 0-3 start to the campaign. With Ohio Valley Conference play beginning in less than a month, APSU is scheduled to compete in three matches before its conference-opener versus Eastern Kentucky, March 18th.
APSU last took the court February 13th against nationally-ranked Southern Indiana, which included singles victories from the No. 1 and 2 positions.
Friday, the Govs will welcome back junior Aaron Jumonville, who missed the recent away meeting against the Screaming Eagles. Another junior, James Mitchell, seeks to bounce back from his season’s lone singles defeat after starting 2-0.
The Salukis (5-1) have been on a roll since a road defeat at SEC power Tennessee, winning five-straight matches.
Senior Jonny Rigby has been the catalyst for the Salukis, obtaining a 4-0 record in singles and doubles combined last week to lead the team. As a result, Rigby was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the fourth weekly award of his career.
First serve between the Govs and Salukis will take place at noon from the University Courts.
