Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will open the home part of its 2016 schedule, 11:00am, Saturday at Cheryl Holt Field by playing host to Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a doubleheader.
The Saturday doubleheader ends a school-record 14 games away from home to open a season for the Lady Govs (2-12), breaking the old mark of 13 games – done twice — first during the 1994 campaign and tied in 2004.The ball games will also be the first meeting between Austin Peay and the Golden Lions (6-14), who are a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
The Lady Govs are 25-3 all-time versus teams from the SWAC, with Austin Peay having previously played Alabama State, Jackson State, Mississippi Valley and Alabama A&M in the program’s 31-year history.
Entering the weekend, Austin Peay has three players batting .330-or-better, led by freshman shortstop Kendall Vedder – who is hitting at a .371 clip, with two doubles and six RBIs.
Vedder is joined by red-shirt freshman outfielder Kacy Acree (.340/2 HR/8 RBI) and freshman third baseman Danielle Liermann (.333/2 HR/12 RBI).
In the circle, juniors Autumn Hanners (1-5, 3.54 ERA, 15 K’s) and Allie Blackwood (1-0, 4.85 ERA, 6 k’s) have recorded wins this season for Austin Peay.
