Austin Peay State University Lady Govs Golf to compete at Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUSevierville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team will play its first spring tournament and second 2016 event when it participates in the Fourth Annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, Sunday-Tuesday, on the Highlands Course at Sevierville Golf Club.

This will be the third time the Lady Govs have played in the event but it is the first time it will be a will be a three-day, 54-hole tournament on a par-71, 5,803-yard layout.

In addition to the hosts and APSU, one other Ohio Valley Conference school—Tennessee State—will be participating. The remainder of the 12-team includes Evansville, Florida Atlantic, Oakland, Radford, Southern Miss, UNC Greensboro, Western Illinois and Youngstown State.

The tournament is named after the late Bobby Nichols, the longtime Tennessee Tech coach who also competed on the PGA tour.

APSU is coming off an impressive 22-stroke dual-match victory against Belmont in Gulf Shores more than a week ago. The Lady Govs shot 619 over the two days, including a solid 148 from senior Jessica Cathey (77-71).

In Sevierville, APSU will feature a lineup that will be led by Cathey and juniors Amber Bosworth and Morgan Kauffman. Sophomore AnnaMichelle Moore and freshman Taylor Goodley. Twin sister Ashton Goodley will play as an individual.

“After a great week of practice and getting back into competition, we are excited to return to the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate; an event that honors an OVC and golf Legend,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “The greens on the Highlands are big and can be tricky, therefore, our key to success will be to be confident with our putters, to stay focused on the moment, and keep our tempo under control.”
