Nashville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team fell to Eastern Illinois 4-0, Friday, in the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference at the Centennial SportsPlex, ending its season.
The Govs finish the year with an overall record of 7-10, their highest win total since 2013. In that same season, APSU also lost to EIU in the first round, 4-0.
However, Eastern Illinois once again claimed the point en route to a opening round victory. EIU’s Srishti Slaria and Katie Stadalninkaite began the day by defeated Hannah Tatlock and Isabela Jovanovic at No. 3, 6-1.
APSU answered at No. 2, with Claudia Yanes Garcia and Brittney Covington knocking off Ali Foster and Kelly Iden, 6-4. But the Panthers would clinch soon after despite a hard-fought effort by the Govs – Hannah Kimbrough and Grace Summers defeated Lidia Yanes Garcia and Helena Kuppig, 7-5.
EIU needed three singles victories to seal the win, and did so beginning with Slarvia topping Tatlock, 6-0, 6-1. To follow, Summers defeated Kuppig, 6-3, 6-1, and Kimbrough bested Covington, 6-0, 6-2. The remaining matches featuring Lidia, Claudia and Jovanovic were unfinished.
