Clarksville, TN – A beautiful Christmas Tree has been raised in the lobby of City Hall to honor Gold Star families in the Clarksville community, and two Gold Star wreaths have been placed on the Eternal Flame monument in nearby Public Square.

Gold Star families are invited to come to City Hall during normal business hours, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Monday-Friday and place a Gold Star with their family name on the tree.
Gold Stars are available at the security desk. Citizens are also invited to drop by City Hall and view the Gold Star Memorial Tree and wreaths.
The display is designed as a way for the City of Clarksville to honor and pay tribute to fallen service members and their families during the holiday season. An inscription placed with the tree reads: “Gold Star Family Memorial Tree. Honor and Remember. A Tribute to Gold Star Spouses, Children, Mothers, Fathers and Relatives who sacrificed a Loved One for our Freedom.”

The term “Gold Star” describes a family or family members who have lost a loved one in military service. The Gold Star first appeared during World War I, when it was placed over a service flag’s blue star when a service member was killed in combat.
