Clarksville, TN – Playing their third match in less than 72 hours, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s tennis fell to in-state foe Middle Tennessee, 4-2, at the Governors Tennis Center.

The Governors came out hot against the Blue Raiders, with Ana Albertson and Sarah Heckel picking up their team-best eighth doubles win of the spring in the No. 3 position.
But Middle Tennessee bounced back and picked up a win in the No. 1 doubles position, turning the No. 2 matchup into a decisive match for the doubles point.
On the No. 2 line, Fabienne Schmidt and Aleks Topalovic picked up their seventh win of the spring as they claimed the doubles point for Austin Peay State University.
Leading 1-0 after doubles play, Middle Tennessee picked up wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions, knocking off Schmidt and Danielle Morris to claim a 2-1 lead in the match. In the No. 3 singles match, Jana Leder dropped the first match of her Austin Peay State University career, as she fell to the Blue Raiders, who now held a 3-1 lead in the match.
But the Governors were not done yet, as the No. 4 singles match was the next to go final, with Martina Paladini-Jennings posting a win to cut the Govs deficit to just one.
But Middle Tennessee picked up the match clinching point in the No. 6 singles position, as the Blue Raiders knocked off Sarah Heckel to claim the final point of the day. In the No. 5 singles position, Topalovic won the first set and dropped the second, but her match was left unfinished after Middle Tennessee had already claimed the match.

The Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team will wrap up non-conference play with a trip to Indianapolis to take on IUPUI in a 3:00pm, Friday match. After the Govs take on IUPUI, they will kick off conference play with a 2:30pm, March 10th match at Tennessee State.
