“Tips to Make Your Next Mammogram Easier” led the Breast Cancer Awareness Month issue with reassuring, practical guidance that takes some of the anxiety out of a screening too many women put off — making its case simply: an annual screening helps make sure you'll be there for life's most important moments.
“Clarksville's History of Music, Part 1” opened a two-part series digging into the city's rich musical heritage, serving up a memorable anecdote about an opera diva said to have carved her initials into a hotel's grand pier mirror with a diamond ring. For Fire Prevention Month, “Every Second Counts: Plan Two Ways Out” delivered potentially life-saving home-safety guidance, while “Wags n Wings” previewed a family festival and “Wicked Candy Apples” added seasonal fun. The health pages added flu-season advice.
The recurring departments round out a rich October number with something for nearly every reader — willing to nudge a reader toward a screening that could save her life on one page and celebrate a family pet festival on the next.
The “Tree of Life” feature toured a market built around locally sourced milk, eggs, meats, honey and elderberry syrups, grab-and-go meals prepared fresh each day by its Macro Kitchen, and CBD products — a store that treats dietary supplements and herbs as part of everyday well-being. People have leaned on such remedies for thousands of years, it noted: willow-bark tea eased fevers for centuries before pharmaceutical companies isolated the chemical responsible and turned that knowledge into aspirin.
