The lead feature covered the Millan Foundation's annual banquet, which brought nearly five hundred supporters to the Wilma Rudolph Event Center for an evening of food, fellowship and inspiration — and a look at the nonprofit's progress over its first year. Emcee Jeff Truitt described how a loose group of interested individuals became, one year later, a formal mission with a vision, its purpose to strengthen the impact of organizations already doing good work. He told the room their involvement had made the first year both extraordinary and deeply humbling.
Jack Turner and former Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett joined Truitt on stage for a discussion of the Foundation's efforts and accomplishments, giving the evening the feel of both a celebration and a strategy session for the year ahead.
The recurring departments round out an issue that closes the first half of the year on a note of momentum — a young foundation finding its footing, and a community showing up in force to back it.
