The cover feature, “When All He Wants for Christmas Is a Puppy Dog,” brought a warm, family-relatable holiday story to the year's final issue, thoughtfully weighing the joys and responsibilities of a Christmas pet.

“Homeschool + ACT = Scholarship” offered homeschooling families an encouraging, practical look at turning their approach into college opportunity. “The Perfect (Unexpected) Birth Plan” shared a candid, reassuring take on how childbirth rarely goes to script, told in an honest first-person voice — its author recalling the reaction when she announced a third child and the way she pulled from every resource she could find about natural childbirth. “Teaching Dance” spotlighted a local pursuit, and a Holidays feature captured the season's spirit.

The recurring departments round out a December number that balances holiday warmth, education and honesty — a fittingly warm close to the year and the decade that captures the joys and realities of family life during the holidays, sending Clarksville families into the season a little more thoughtful and a little more prepared.

The puppy feature opened on a scene of shared parental dread: two mothers on the bleachers at their children's basketball game discovering a common problem. They were grateful their kids weren't asking for video games or DVDs — easy one-time purchases, easily stored and eventually forgotten — but their children had climbed onto Santa's lap and, amid a crowd of giggling onlookers, publicly requested a puppy for Christmas.
