“Keeping Summer Safe” led the issue with practical guidance for protecting families through the season's hazards, from the pool to the playground. The focus reflected the magazine's enduring priority: helping parents protect their children. Between the pool, the playground and the long days outdoors, a Tennessee summer offers as many hazards as joys, and the issue gave families the guidance to navigate both with a little more peace of mind.

“A Summertime Sleepover” brought a fun, family-friendly feature on one of childhood's great summer pleasures, with ideas for making the night a success. “Homestyle” offered inspiration for the home, “Switch from Razor to Laser” provided a cosmetic-care option, and “Dollars & Sense” kept the magazine's steady financial guidance close at hand for a still-uncertain year.

The recurring departments round out a June number built for a safe, happy family summer — the practical and the playful together, pointing families toward the season's fun without ever losing sight of safety.

A Spotlight introduced readers to 2-1-1, then a new nationwide initiative for easy access to local information. The feature set it beside the numbers everyone already knew — 911 for emergencies, 411 for a phone number, 511 for road and traffic conditions — and made the case for one more easy-to-remember line connecting residents to the web of local health and human services waiting to help. Like the others, the feature noted, 2-1-1 works the same anywhere in the country, and is simple enough that even a toddler could remember it.
